Base Hourly:

$19.64

Class/Calendar:

B21 9.25 months

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement up to aten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

To serve as an academic mentor to work directly and collaboratively with a caseload of individual students and their families school personnel and community service providers to implement strategies that promote school success and school completion. Serve as an intervention to enhance student engagement in grades K -12 through relationship building problem solving and capacity building and persistence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track students levels of engagement (i.e. attendance grades behavior referrals) to document results to ensure accurate retrieval of data for reporting purposes
  • Use data from systematic monitoring to design personalized interventions for the student
  • Serve as a liaison to facilitate communication and promote problem solving for the student and between home and school
  • Establish regular communication with parents/families via phone e-mail and home visits to share information and develop plans to engage students in school and promote educational success
  • Establish regular communication with teachers to gather and share information about student progress
  • Work collaboratively with schools and programs to define and outline roles to improve participation performance and success for individual students who are disengaging from school and learning
  • Provide regular and consistent feedback to students and families to assess and/or modify initiatives for student engagement
  • Facilitate communication between students and families and community resources and programs for referral or to obtain appropriate services
  • Respond to students families and school personnel questions and/or concerns in a timely manner
  • Serve as a positive role model for students staff and parents
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
  • Integrate culture in a positive manner at the school site when appropriate
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activity
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in education or related field or any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved may be acceptable
  • Valid Arizona Drivers license with proof of insurance and reliable transportation
  • Experience working with youth

  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word Excel email etc)

  • Ability to work with students and parents/guardians to nurture a long-term commitment focused on learning and success at school
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with students parents/guardians teachers and Native American agencies; ability to negotiate compromise and confront conflict
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships with students parents/guardians teachers and Native American agencies
  • Ability to organize prioritize take initiative adapt to changing situations and a variety of settings; to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to maintain organized comprehensive records for reporting information
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and evening hours as needed
  • Native American preference (Section 9114 (c) (2) of Part A Title IX)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently works at schools across the districtelementary middle and high schools
  • Visits students homes to meet with families and build relationships
  • May also spend time at tribal community centers or events depending on the partnership with local tribes
  • Some duties will be performed in an office setting: documenting interactions preparing reports coordinating services maintaining student records
  • Collaborates with teachers counselors administrators tribal education departments and families
  • Long days are possible during high-activity periods like school transitions or cultural events
  • May need to carry educational materials or supplies during visits or outreach events (up to 20 lbs)
