Job requirements
The Theatre Porter supports the safe and efficient running of the Operating Department by following all hospital policies Health & Safety requirements Fire Regulations and COSHH procedures. The role involves working closely with wards clinical teams and other departments to ensure smooth patient flow and a wellmaintained theatre environment.
Key duties include:
Assisting with the preparation cleaning and turnaround of operating theatres.
Safely transferring and positioning patients between departments.
Supporting theatre staff with collecting and cleaning equipment.
Managing clinical waste and maintaining clean tidy work areas.
Transporting patients beds urgent specimens and required items between departments.
Maintaining and cleaning theatre trolleys tables Xray aprons and equipment.
Reporting equipment faults and ensuring stock items (e.g. theatre pillows) are collected as needed.
Answering telephones assisting visiting personnel and promoting good teamwork.
Supporting nurses with patient handling tasks once trained.
Ensuring all instrumentation sets are correctly checked in with theatre staff.
The role requires a caring responsible and proactive approach to maintaining safety efficiency and high-quality patient care.
