Our dynamic Marketing & Business Development (M&BD) team is seeking the right candidate to join the Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group. The IP M&BD Manager in the Americas will support the following practice areas IP litigation IP & Technology Transactions and Strategic Portfolio Management and Counseling which covers patents trademarks trade secrets copyright and more. This role will lead the marketing and business development plans in the Americas region while staying coordinated with the global IP business plan and initiatives.
This position will work closely with the IP regional practice area leader in the Americas to develop and implement the practices M&BD plan specific to the region in line with its global practice business plan and objectives. This position will report into the Senior Marketing and Business Development Manager and will be located in Washington D.C.
PITCHING CLIENT DEVELOPMENT & NEW BUSINESS GENERATION
- Work with lawyers and M&BD colleagues to identify opportunities to expand client relationships advise partners and teams on new business opportunities and provide support on the development of our approach team proposition and supporting materials.
- Support and help execute on various parts of the global IP global business plan.
- Create and maintain compelling pitch materials and proposals for the IP practice.
- Develop responses to RFPs customized pitches and business development presentations including shaping the strategy and approach to the pitch and the delivery of high-quality proposal documents and presentations.
- Develop and implement client targeting initiatives and campaigns; help identify new business opportunities.
- Help drive client feedback gathering by identifying appropriate candidates for client listening executing interviews and ensuring all feedback is acted upon appropriately.
PROFILE RISING & MARKETING CAMPAIGNS
- Create and implement integrated marketing campaigns for the IP Practice in the Americas to raise our profile and awareness among our key target audiences and generate opportunities to meet potential clients.
- Plan and manage the implementation of marketing and communications programs in support of the wider M&BD plan including client events targeted seminar programs client-facing material production website development digital and social media etc.
- Develop and optimize relationships with relevant industry associations and organizations ensuring sponsorships drive value and client engagement.
PLANNING & BUDGETING
- Consult with the IP Americas practice area leader and other key IP stakeholders to develop and implement strategic business and M&BD plans and budgets as well as manage and report on progress.
- Responsible for managing the IP Americas M&BD activities.
- Deliver meaningful market client and competitive intelligence research and analysis to support the planning process and other M&BD initiatives.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE SHARING
- Coordinate and actively participate in regular meetings of industry sector teams and their relevant sub-groups to ensure coordination with the IP practice group.
- Ensure there is a structured approach for maintaining up-to-date M&BD information and knowledge such as credentials and pitches. This includes capturing and maintaining experience for inclusion in our experience database and marketing collateral.
- Work with the partners to promote practice capabilities across the firm through practice and other internal communications and the firms intranet.
DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP
- Serve as the M&BD subject matter expert for the IP Practice Group particularly for the Americas region.
- Play a leadership role on the IP M&BD team helping to lead on larger projects and to develop and reinforce best practices and processes.
- Display manager behavior ensuring best practices and business basics are adhered to and exemplify best-in-class marketing and business development delivery across firm stakeholders.
WIDER M&BD PROJECTS
- Contribute to wider M&BD projects and additional duties as required.
- Participate in our global Responsible program a program dedicated to community investment and social justice.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Demonstrable level of strategic and commercial awareness.

- Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent writing skills and an exacting attention to detail in all work product.
- Strong organizational and project management skills and an ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Experience of working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative professional environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Seven (7) years of marketing and business development experience required preferably in a legal or other professional services sector.
- Experience in the intellectual property space or in tech/innovation highly desirable.
- Bachelors degree required with a focus in marketing communications or related field preferred.
Core hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Must be flexible to work additional hours and travel occasionally.
In Washington D.C. office the expected base salary range for this role is $155000 to $180000 per year.
This range reflects a good-faith estimate of pay at the time of posting; the actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as the candidates qualifications. This position is eligible for additional forms of compensation which may include annual discretionary bonuses. Employees in this role are also eligible for benefits offered by the firm subject to applicable plan terms and conditions which currently include medical dental and vision insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; and paid time off.
