The primary role of the Koorie Family First Educator practitioner is to strengthen the capacity of parents to guide their childrens early learning and development and raising children strong in their identity and culture including successful transition to Kindergarten Playgroup and School.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
Koorie Family as First Educator Practitioner will work within the Balert Gerribik program to empower parents as their childs first and most important teacher. This evidence-based approach builds parenting capacity through strength-based support that fosters confidence cultural identity and lifelong learning.
Key Selection Criteria
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.
Demonstrated capability to meet the key responsibilities of this position.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability relate well to Aboriginal Families and young children.
Ability/experience in coaching mentoring and supporting families with young children.
A sound knowledge of child development and key learning behaviours and the developmental needs through play and social experiences.
Confidence in role modelling and providing honest feedback to parents regarding parenting skills and actions.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local Community.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
Valid Victorian drivers licence ESSENTIAL
Diploma level qualification in Early Childhood Community Services or equivalent and or at least 2 years experience in providing support to families and children ESSENTIAL
A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
