Job Summary

Are you someone who is passionate about supporting local families and enjoys working in community As GEGACs Koori Supported Playgroup- Outreach Faciliator you will take playgroup to families meeting them where they are and where they feel most comfortable. You will support Aboriginal children and families through culturally grounded play parenting support and connection to community and culture using outreach as the foundation for engagement and trust.

Organisational Profile

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

The Koori Supported Playgroup Outreach Facilitator is responsible for planning delivering and facilitating culturally safe inclusive and strengths-based playgroup programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their parents/carers. The role supports early childhood development strengthens parenting confidence fosters strong cultural identity and connects families with community culture and relevant services through outreach-based delivery. The Outreach Facilitator works in partnership with families Elders community members and service providers to ensure the playgroup reflects local culture community priorities and the social and emotional wellbeing of children and families.

Key Selection Criteria

Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children families and communities in an early years family support playgroup or community setting.

Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and the issues impacting the Aboriginal community. Commitment to providing a Culturally safe service.

Skills gained through experience and/or training that support the delivery of structured activities group facilitation and community engagement.

Understanding of culturally safe trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.

Ability to work under general guidance follow established procedures and take responsibility for own work.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to engage families in outreach settings.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

Current Victorian drivers licence ESSENTIAL

Certificate III or IV in Community Services Early Childhood and Care or relevant field DESIRABLE

Willingness to work toward Certificate III or IV in Community Services Early Childhood Education and Care or relevant field ESSENTIAL

A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL

A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE

Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
