The Department of Ecology is hiring a Legislative Planner(Environmental Planner 3) (In-Training) within theSolid Waste Management Program.

As the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Program Legislative Coordinator you work on emerging solid waste policy issues at both the national and Washington state levels. You will coordinate SWMs involvement in agency legislation related to solid waste independently review and assign legislative bills to staff and prepare bill analyses when needed. Youll also provide policy recommendations to management to support successful implementation of legislation and collaborate with other program leads.
What you will do:
This position offers an in-training plan and may be filled at the Environmental Planner 2 or 3 level depending on your qualifications. If you qualify at the EP2 level and are hired you will progress through an in-training plan to become an EP3 within a specified time period.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of the legislative process environmental laws and governmental administrative structures.
Knowledge of solid waste management issues including recycling and reuse programs.
Strong communication skills both written and verbal. Communicates effectively with private businesses and public organizations.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with governmental officials.
Experience analyzing data and conducting research.
Experience analyzing policies.
Experience providing direct customer service including working with manufacturers and industry associations.
Works well with internal and external contacts; ability to identify key partners and maintain effective working relationships.
