Manages the Commercial Lines Team Managers to ensure the respective teams are achieving the departments growth retention and profitability goals. The Underwriting Manager is very collaborative working with underwriters agents and reports directly to the Commercial Lines Assistant Vice President (AVP). The individual sets high standards of performance for self and subordinates. The Underwriting Manager will demonstrate the ability to challenge develop and lead their staff in pursuit of objectives as set forth in the business plan. The individual manages and administers established commercial lines underwriting polices authority guidelines and quality control of underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with the Commercial Lines AVP to develop strategic plans for growth retention and profitability of all commercial lines.
Accountable for the management and business results of the assigned commercial lines teams.
Participate in the development of the departments business plans and monitor results for successful attainment.
Has significant decision making authority which has the ability to impact business results.
Provides leadership by example connecting actions with values.
Responsible for the selection and development of Team Managers and underwriting personnel.
Develop and maintain relationships with partner agents.
Cultivate effective relationships with other departments to achieve the overall business objectives of Arbella including Sales and Marketing CL Operations and Claims.
Demonstrate ability to foresee changes of workflow and processes to maximize efficiencies.
Demonstrate ability to pro-actively step out of comfort zone to take risks and stretch abilities.
Is highly competent within discipline and demonstrates consistently high levels of performance.
Works under general direction of the Assistant Vice President or above.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree with CPCU or CIC highly preferred
- Proven leadership experience in recruiting developing and retaining a high performing team of underwriters
- 5 years of progressive experience in a leadership position managing a commercial lines property & casualty underwriting team
- Must possess excellent leadership communication relationship building analytical and negotiation skills.
Our current reasonable and good faith estimate of the annual salary range for this position is approximately $120000 - $150000 based on a variety of factors including but not limited to relevant skills and experience educational background and certifications performance and qualifications market demand for the role and other organizational needs.
