The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) invites qualified executive leaders to pursue a high-impact opportunity to serve at the senior leadership level of the Commonwealths largest executive branch agency. VADOC advances public safety across Virginia through secure custody effective supervision and evidence-based rehabilitation a mission supported by nearly 13000 authorized employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $1.6 billion.
This position offers a significant opportunity for an experienced leader to join the Senior Executive Leadership Team and help shape the future of corrections in Virginia. The Deputy Director for Administration serves as a senior enterprise leader reporting directly to the Director of Corrections and is responsible for strengthening and modernizing the agencys administrative fiscal human capital infrastructure and enterprise systems to ensure they operate effectively responsibly and in alignment with the public safety mission.
In this role the Deputy Director helps guide ongoing organizational transformation by enhancing enterprise performance improving operational systems and ensuring the agencys administrative infrastructure evolves to meet the changing needs of the workforce the agencys mission and the Commonwealth.
The Deputy Director for Administration provides executive leadership and strategic oversight of the Division of Administration guiding statewide enterprise functions that enable facilities probation and parole districts and operational units to perform effectively.
This role ensures that the systems and administrative services supporting correctional operations across the Commonwealth remain modern compliant efficient and mission focused.
This position:
Provides enterprise leadership across statewide administrative operations
Shapes long-term strategy governance and resource stewardship
Directs executive-level managers responsible for critical support divisions
Strengthens organizational performance through operational reliability and modernization
Ensures responsible management of public funds and human capital at scale
The Deputy Director delivers statewide leadership across a diverse portfolio of enterprise support functions including:

The role strengthens agency performance by ensuring reliable administrative fiscal and human capital services that support public safety enhance workforce effectiveness and promote organizational accountability.
Minimum Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of executive-level administrative leadership principles governance models and management practices applicable to a large complex public sector organization.
Knowledge of VADOCs mission vision goals operational environment and applicable federal and state laws regulations policies and procedures governing public administration.
Demonstrated ability to plan direct coordinate and oversee multiple statewide administrative functions; lead and supervise executive-level managers; establish strategic priorities and ensure effective delivery of agencywide support services aligned with organizational objectives.
Advanced skills in executive communication strategic advising and stakeholder engagement including the ability to present complex operational fiscal and policy matters to senior leadership oversight bodies and diverse audiences to support informed decision-making.
Experience leading organizational modernization systems improvement or large-scale operational initiatives within a public sector or similarly complex environment.
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a highly regulated public safety or governmental environment including interpreting and ensuring compliance with complex legal regulatory and policy requirements while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
Ability to complete Virginia Ethics Council Conflict of Interest (COI) filing within two (2) business days of hire and annually thereafter in accordance with the Code of Virginia 2.2-3100.
Ability to complete COI training within two (2) months of hire and every other year thereafter as required by Code of Virginia 2.2-3132
Additional Considerations
Advanced knowledge education executive development or professional certifications in Public Administration Business Administration Public Safety Law Enforcement Administration Organizational Leadership or a related field.
Experience serving in a senior executive or enterprise leadership role within a large public sector corrections law enforcement or similarly regulated environment.
