JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Administrator of the Anatomical Bequest Program (ABP) plans directs and coordinates all arrangements associated with whole-body donation when a death has occurred. Specific tasks include functioning as a Funeral Director by contacting close relatives/associates of the deceased and removing preparing transporting storing using and disposing of donors according to the Universitys standards and applicable laws.



Responsibilities
  1. Advises funeral service professionals (Embalmers) on aspects of entire body donation.

  2. Confers with donors: Sets up medical screenings and establishes authority of next of kin or power of attorney for legal authorization.

  3. Oversees aspects of labs for courses crematory and preparation facility.

  4. Prepares donors for storage; orders and pays for operating costs of preparation and transportation of donors.

  5. Offers counsel and comfort to bereaved families or friends.Displays respect for donors and donor families. Protects the rights and privacy of the deceased and next of kin.

  6. Consults with families or friends of the deceased to assist with post-mortem details such as obituaries or plans for services.

  7. Maintains a donor file list; attains signed/approved forms of release cremation and disposition of the deceased and assists others with the preparation of legal forms (i.e. death certificate for donor).

  8. Manages personnel accountable for financial records ordering merchandise preparing accounts and entering and tracking the transportation of the deceased.

  9. Establishes relationships with hospices funeral homes and other institutions of donor awareness.

  10. Develop and maintain relationships with organizations to increase donor awareness.

  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

EDUCATION:Bachelors Degreein Mortuary Science Biology or a closely related field of study.(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years work-related experience; OR Associates Degree in Mortuary Science Biology or closely related field of study and six (6) years related work experience OR certificate from an accredited College of Mortuary Science and four (4) years work-related experience. Ability to work with deceased bodies and grieving persons required. (Funeral service experience including the preservation of the deceased and administrative experience as it pertains to legal forms funeral service laws shipping and receiving of the deceased and overall funeral home management preferred).

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Funeral Director and Embalmer State of Tennessee licensure preferred.Licenses must be kept in good standing with the state board which includes renewal fees and continuing education. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill in embalming and working with all aspects of the human body.

  • Ability to provide empathy when dealing with grieving families.

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.

  • Ability to learn FileMaker Pro database.

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).

WORK SCHEDULE:This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. Must be available to be on call on a regular rotating schedule on weekends on a monthly basis.
