ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the worlds largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with zero hunger. WFP and its partners believe that no child should go to bed hungry and that individual and collective wellbeing can only be achieved if all children women and men get the nutritious food they need to lead healthy dignified 2020 WFP assisted 115.5 million people in 84 countries. WFP works with partners to strengthen the resilience of communities most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition through long-term development programmes aimed at boosting food security local economies education employment and gender equality. While hunger and malnutrition are the worlds largest solvable issues the needs are still immense and growing.
Starting in 2020 Private Partnerships Division (PSP) has embarked upon a new partnership and engagement strategy which will focus on cooperation with the business sector foundations and individuals to drive progress towards zero hunger. PSP will concentrate its efforts over the next strategic period (2020-2025) around three key pillars:
Impact: partnerships that provide expertise and skills to support capacity strengthening for WFP and local governments.
Income: investing in and growing fundraising.
Innovation: identifying areas for innovation particularly with businesses uniquely able to drive change at scale.
FUNDRAISING FROM INDIVIDUALS
Fundraising from individuals can deliver significant revenue and loyal donors as well as valuable unrestricted funds. During WFPs Private Sector Partnerships & Fundraising strategy () income from individuals is estimated to grow tenfold to USD 170m p.a. in 2025.
To achieve this income growth WFP has invested significantly and it is critical that the investment in this programme to raise funds from individuals is as effective as possible: generating a high return on every dollar invested and attracting loyal donors who will continue to support WFPs work for many years.
The income growth in the first three years of the six-year strategy has been delivered by the IG and STM teams taking a global and digital-first approach and recruiting individual donors in all countries in the world plus two Friends organizations in the USA and Japan. Continuing to attract new supporters and engage them so that hungry people can count on their ongoing generosity requires a regular flow of content from WFPs country offices around the world to represent the people we serve.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The World Food Programme (WFP) has significant plans for growth in brand awareness and broader supporter engagement as well an ambitious private sector fundraising strategy to grow engagement with and income from individuals. Powerful and engaging story content is critical to achieving these ambitious plans and the Regional Multimedia Producer is a key role for delivering content in support of WFPs 2023 narratives and communication priorities. Reporting to the Lead Global Supporter Content Hub the Sr Video Production Specialist will plan direct shoot and gather video content and draft scripts for WFP to use to develop timely and inspiring fundraising campaigns in close coordination with the Communications Advocacy and Marketing Division (CAM).. They will develop and maintain a consistent standard and brand style of footage useful for fundraising and engagement products whilst working closely with the PSP Video Editor all whilst adhering to the WFP Image framework. They will also brief freelancers staff train and build the content gathering capacity of field-based colleagues using best practice via workshops and webinars .
ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Conceptualize and develop Storyboard script shoot and edit a variety of video products to within tight
schedules/deadlines while building rapport and engaging specific supporter and donor audiences with
the work of WFP.
As requested travel to the field to film staff gather narratives on beneficiaries or other people for video
products and / or direct and brief WFP staff or freelancers to film relevant contributors for film
products.
Provide strategic and innovative ideas on WFP image enhancement and visibility through videographics.
Deploy to rapid onset emergencies to lead the collection and/or formulation of content for
Communications and fundraising purposes.
Quickly and efficiently create edit and deliver emergency video products using photo footage and key
messages.
Build capacity of colleagues in the field to collect video content using best practice.
Propose maintain and implement a consistent standard of quality and brand style for engaging and
retaining donors and supporter-type audiences.
Adhere to the WFP Image Framework
Ensure consistent use of title graphics and colour palette across all video products.
Lead or support other film animation/FX projects as requested and briefed through the year.
Working with the Lead Global Supporter Content Hub and the PPF Video Producer develop a roster of
freelance filmmakers across key regions and support regional bureau and country offices with briefing
freelancers for brand and story consistency.
Work within the agreed content ingestion protocols and post-production workflows of the WFP DAM
system and independently upload all video footage with metadata to the system as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
Delivered case study documents video and/or photo packages to brief from all content trips
commissioned and/or undertaken with full video logs and image metadata in line with priority content
needs and briefs;
Delivered trainings to WFP colleagues in the field for best practice content gathering
Products could include social media edits engagement videos b-roll packages animated shorts
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
Advanced University degree in Journalism International Relations Public Relations Communications or other relevant field or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Work history
At least ten years of relevant professional experience with filming video editing and post-production of fundraising and brand products at least four years of which should be with a UN Agency or INGO
Knowledge & skills
Extensive experience of creating powerful and effective video content for marketing/ fundraising and brand campaigns in an INGO or UN agency.
Extensive experience working in the field to capture in depth multimedia content and develop strong storyline to support brand narratives.
Extensive experience editing and producing video products using Premier Pro/ Avid and other editing software.
Proven track record of working to create fundraising products (including acquisition and retention videos) and/ or awareness videos in a humanitarian and/ or development context.
Demonstrable experience of managing advanced FX and other animation projects for creation of film products.
Strong storytelling skills with the ability to explain and translate to film complicated concepts across a range of cultures and geographies to diverse audiences.
Ability to work with WFP teams and other freelances to deliver on brief compelling multimedia story content.
Proactive and highly organized with strong time management and planning skills.
Able to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
Language(s)
Excellent command of spoken and written English
Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus (Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish).
