Job Description Summary:

The Research Assistant Professor in Department of Internal Medicine Division of Geriatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center will pursue basic translational and/or clinical research in geriatrics and geroscience to identify therapeutic targets and interventions in a team-based research environment. This position offers opportunities for research collaboration within a multidisciplinary research community.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Contribute to research on optimizing health span in older adults and exploring the fundamental mechanisms of aging.
  • Conduct research using animal models including behavioral assessments to investigate acute and chronic pain particularly in aging utilizing molecular biology biochemistry and epigenetic techniques.
  • Contribute to training and directing activities of research assistants graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Review manuscripts for journals.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees.

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD degree or equivalent.

  • This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements institutional standards of academic and professional excellence alignment with peer institution benchmarks and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.


Work Experience:

  • Established record of scholarly productivity related to basic science (cell molecular biology or genetics) and/or clinical investigation as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Evidence of or potential for externally funded research as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience with teaching or mentoring students at all degree and post-graduate levels.
  • Interdisciplinary publication experience as demonstrated by application materials.
