Job Summary

SUMMARY/ OBJECTIVE

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing implementing and maintaining workplace safety health and environmental programs in compliance with OSHA (United States) and WorkSafe (Canada) regulations. This role ensures the safety of employees adherence to legal requirements and the continuous improvement of all safety initiatives across offices production facilities and fleet operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Safety Manager ResponsibilitiesUnited States:
OSHA Compliance:

-Implement and maintain workplace safety programs to comply with OSHA standards rules and regulations.
-Reports OSHA Reportable injuries to OSHA within 8 hours.
-Accurately record all OSHA Recordable injuries for year-end reporting and filing.
-Maintain and update OSHA 300 301 and 300A forms ensuring all work-related injuries and illnesses are properly documented for inspection and submission as required by OSHAs recordkeeping rules.

-The main point of contact for OHSA compliance officers and manages all OSHA inspections.

Conduct Safety Audits and Inspections:

-Inspect workplaces to identify hazards ensure safety systems are in place and verify compliance with federal state and local safety regulations.
Workers Compensation Claims Management:

-Respond promptly to workplace injuries ensuring proper care and accurate incident reporting.

-Assist employees with the workers compensation claims process and coordinate communication with insurance providers.

-Maintain claim records and monitor progress supporting return-to-work efforts when appropriate.
-Collaborate with HR and supervisors on claims management and case resolution.
-Use claims data to identify trends and recommend safety improvements.
Develop and Update Safety Policies:
-Create and update safety manuals operating procedures and emergency response plans.
Employee Training:
-Develop and conduct safety training sessions on hazard recognition equipment use PPE and emergency procedures.

Incident Investigation:
-Respond to accidents and near-misses lead investigations determine root causes document findings and implement corrective actions.
Promote Safety Culture:
-Lead initiatives that drive a safety-first mindset and encourage employee involvement in safety programs.
Collaboration:
-Serve as a liaison with external regulators and internal teams to address safety issues and regulatory updates.
Maintain Safety Equipment:
-Oversee the provision and proper use of safety equipment including PPE and emergency kits.


Safety Manager ResponsibilitiesCanada
Ensure WorkSafe Compliance:
-Implement health and safety programs in compliance with provincial regulations and WorkSafe Provinces.
-Work directly with WorkSafe regulators during inspections consultations or investigations; represent the employer in these matters.
-Review and respond to inspection reports addressing any compliance orders as required.
-Communicate inspection findings and safety information to all employees ensuring everyone is aware of hazards and corrective actions. Encourage reporting of hazards and participation in safety initiatives.
-File reports with relevant WorkSafe agencies when an injury occurs.
Develop and Enforce Safety Policies:
-Craft and enforce safety policies/procedures specific to workplace risks; tailor them for jobsites and work tasks.
Conduct Safety Inspections:
-Routinely inspect facilities and jobsites to identify hazards address deficiencies and ensure regulatory compliance.
Provide Training:
-Organize and deliver training programs on safe work practices regulatory requirements and emergency procedures.
Incident Response and Investigation:
-Investigate work-related incidents and guide corrective/preventive actions.
Promote Safety Culture:
-Foster safety awareness and encourage employee participation in safety initiatives; recognize safe behavior.
Documentation and Reporting:
-Maintain comprehensive records of incidents training inspections and compliance efforts as required by provincial law.
Emergency Preparedness:
-Ensure emergency response plans and drills are in place and that first aid equipment/staff are available.
Support and Supervise:
Provide support and guidance to supervisors and workers ensuring all team members understand and carry out their health and safety responsibilities.


Additional Duties that Apply to the USA and Canada:
Leadership Responsibilities:
-Promote and keep track of Safety Leadership Interaction goals.
-Prepare and submit monthly KPIs for leadership.
-Attend Leadership meetings as required.
-Maintain all Workers Compensation certifications required for job sites.
Fleet Management Responsibilities:
-Oversee compliance with all vehicle safety and regulatory requirements.
-Maintain accurate records of Fleet Vehicles and Contract.
-Develop and enforce fleet safety policies and driver training programs.
-Monitor driver performance and coordinate vehicle maintenance and inspections.
-Investigate and document fleet-related accidents recommending corrective actions.
-Maintain accurate records for vehicles drivers incidents and inspections.
Continuous Improvement:
-Recommend and implement safety improvements based on audits legislative updates or new workplace risks.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a minimum of 8 years of relevant safety experience in field and/or plant environments.
-CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or CSHM (Certified Safety and Health Manager) certification preferred.
-Experience in construction field safety required.
-Knowledge of metals manufacturing processes practices and procedures.
-Familiarity with OSHA CAL-OSHA and CCOHS safety regulations.
-Prior experience in the post-tensioning industry either from the materials or construction perspective is a strong asset.
-Bilingual abilities in Spanish and English are highly desirable.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
-Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time to plants and job sites within the assigned region.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
-Must be able to sit stand and use a laptop for extended periods.
-Regularly required to use hands for fine manipulation reach with hands and arms speak and listen; frequent walking standing stooping kneeling and crouching.
-Occasional requirement to sit climb or balance; ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds as needed.
-Visual requirements include close distance color peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
-Must comply with all physical requirements of the role.
