The incumbent is a staff psychologist in Mental Health Service and holds General Core Privileges as a Psychologist. This is a direct patient care position with 100% of time devoted to such activities. The primary focus of this position is to provide psychological services to Veterans from all eras of military service exclusively in a residential population. RRTP psychologists serve in a residential setting to provide care to specialized populations of Veterans (e.g. those experiencing of homelessness mental illness and addictions). The RRTP programs are recovery and customer-service oriented meeting a variety of emotional psychological behavioral interpersonal and social needs of Veterans across a 24 hours/day 7 days/week schedule. Given the 24 hours/day 7 days/week schedule the incumbent will be called on to provide coverage periodically on weather & safety leave days holidays and weekends. The incumbent demonstrates knowledge regarding the role and interaction of cognitive personality and other psychological and psychosocial factors regarding a variety of psychological diagnoses. The incumbent diagnoses mental disorders using a variety of assessment techniques including clinical interview and psychological assessment and psychosocial assessment. The incumbent provides individual therapy group therapy assessment and case management services as needed and in collaboration with the treatment team. Consultation to a variety of other disciplines is a normal part of this practice.
The incumbent skillfully uses different evidence-based therapy (e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Cognitive Processing Therapy Prolonged Exposure Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Interpersonal Therapy for Depression Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy Motivational Interviewing) techniques to address the needs of Veterans receiving RRTP services. The incumbent is familiar with the stages of change and recovery. The incumbent provides suicide risk assessment and safety planning as needed. This includes providing triage services for patients at elevated risk of harm to self or others. The incumbent is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system as appropriate. This includes reviewing and summarizing data from multiple source points. The incumbent is familiar with current practice and law governing access to mental health care. The incumbent will provide consultation and recommendations to the interdisciplinary team regarding functional limitations that impact the Veterans ability to participate fully in the treatment program.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave 13 days of sick leave 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth adoption or foster care placement of a child.

Assignment: (GS-13) This is the full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level psychologists are licensed to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Psychologists consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation teaching training and research activities.
Preferred Experience:
1. Holds a full and unrestricted license as a psychologist in a U.S. state or territory.
2. Experience providing crisis intervention and case management services.
3. Training and clinical experience in evidence-based psychotherapy for treatment of substance use disorders.
4. Training and clinical experience in evidence-based psychotherapy for treatment of trauma and stressor related disorders.
5. Experience providing mental health care to a Veteran population.
using psychological assessment instruments to assist with diagnostic assessment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices hospitals warehouses and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work.
