The Cardiology Advanced Practice Nurse is responsible for supporting the Cardiology section of the Medicine Service Line as a mid-level provider for Heart Failure. They utilize advanced skills in problem identification and clarification treatment planning and implementation of the treatment plan for Veterans with cardiac conditions including Congestive Heart Failure. The incumbent works with other members of the healthcare team to improve the quality of care delivered to the Veteran.
The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients. Major duties and responsibilities of the position:
-Coordinates care for patients in Cardiology Heart Failure clinics to ensure that the care is timely appropriate of high quality and cost effective.
-Provide professional assessment coordination and planning of multiple health care services for both inpatient or outpatients with cardiac diseases and congestive heart failures.
-Provides clinical support to RNs LPNs and MSAs in the Cardiology Service.
-Safely prescribes interventions and treatments which may include the prescriptions of medication.

included but are not limited to promotion of health prevention of illness and disability diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions/diseases and management of health care during the acute and chronic condition phases of illness.
-Responsible for consultation and collaboration with other health care providers.
-Performs quality assurance support as assigned.
-Responsible for the assessment and prescription of intravenous diuretics as an inpatient or outpatient setting.
-Responsible for assessment and treatment of General Cardiology patients especially those with heart failure.
-Work with inpatient hospital services in managing Veterans with the diagnosis of congestive heart failure providing treatment support and patient education as it pertains to the disease process and facilitating outpatient follow-up.
-Work closely with Heart Failure Medical Director to manage complex patients both inpatient/outpatients.
-Work closely with the Heart Failure Medical Director to manage support and facilitate remote monitoring of fluid volume status blood pressure and heart rate/arrhythmias.
-Ability to work on a flexible schedule when needed.
