Student Trainee (Food Service Worker)

• Set up cafeteria lines food service counters steam tables dining room tables and side service stands with hot and cold foods including meats vegetables and etc.
• Cut shred slice and dice fruits vegetables and produce for cooking and serving.
• Make coffee tea and punches according to recipes and sets up water stations.
• Set up and operate dishwashing machine including continuous conveyor belt type.
• Assist in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies.

Conditions of employment

• May require a pre-employment physical.
• May be required to work rotating shifts.
• Emergency overtime may be required.
• The work may require the employee to possess a Food Handlers Card and use/wear appropriate uniform safety and sanitation equipment.
• May be required to attend Quality Improvement Training and to participate in section Quality Improvement Teams and data collection efforts.
• Employee required to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 40 pounds (e.g. filling beverage dispensers) with the assistance of other workers.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Males 18 years or older must be registered for Selective Service see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
• Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment.
• U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
• Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws.
• You must be a student currently enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited education institution or accepted for enrollment/enrolled in an approved program.
• Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate).
• Must sign a Participant Agreement
• Meet the qualification standards of the position.

WG-01: All applicants must be enrolled in a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) program.

1. Knowledge of basic arithmetic in order to count number of tables/trays required to determine number of servings a container will yield and to count change when required to perform cashier duties.
2. Ability to learn knowledge of food service sanitation standards including procedures to prevent contamination spoilage and waste.
3. Ability to concentrate on work assignments despite interruptions and distractions.
4. Ability to do tasks with several steps and to follow established sequence of tasks without more than normal supervision.
5. Ability to learn to use and maintain food service tools and equipment such as knives mechanical dishwasher and powered cleaning equipment.
6. Ability to learn food service safety regulations practices and procedures.
7. Ability to read and understand simple signs names of food items and instructions.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
