Master Student (m/f/d) - Genomics

In this position you will become part of the Genomics team within the OMICs department contributing to the design and execution of experiments and the generation of datasets that support disease research and target discovery. You will work on a range of genomics and multiomics assays and have the opportunity to develop and apply new laboratory approaches. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across sites and disciplines including computational biology and AIML within a matrixed organisation. Candidates should have a solid molecular biology background a strong interest in genomics and a collaborative solutionoriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute experimental phases of disease phenotyping projects including the design and implementation of single cell workflows
  • Operate maintain and optimise laboratory workflows and equipment in close collaboration with automation specialists and external vendors
  • Support sequencing operations and participate in sample preparation library construction sequencing runs and related QC activities
  • Perform basic data quality control and participate in downstream data analysis where appropriate liaising with computational colleagues as needed
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and communicate results clearly to internal scientists and external partners
  • Stay up to date with relevant scientific literature and emerging technologies in genomics and single cell methods
  • Maintain accurate compliant records and documentation for experiments and workflows
  • Present experimental results and project updates at internal meetings and when appropriate at external forums
  • Demonstrate a proactive organised approach to work prioritising tasks and managing time effectively

Qualifications & Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters programme in molecular biology genomics biotechnology or a related discipline
  • Practical laboratory experience in molecular biology with handson experience in genomics workflows
  • Experience designing experiments using bulk RNAseq and preferably singlecell RNAseq technologies
  • Solid knowledge of core molecular biology techniques including qRTPCR NGS library preparation and QC
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments independently troubleshoot and solve technical problems and implement new protocols
  • Proven capability to work both independently and effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organisational skills meticulous recordkeeping and the ability to prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills with experience of liaising with scientists and stakeholders at varying levels of seniority

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in computational analysis of genomics data including QC pre-processing and primary analysis - particularly for bulk RNA seq or single cell RNA seq
  • Familiarity with how genomics supports the drug discovery process including target discovery and later-stage asset development
  • Working knowledge of immunology or prior experience with primary human cellbased projects
  • Experience with complex in vitro models such as primary (immune) cells iPSCs organoids or spheroids
