This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. The incumbent in this position functions as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) for the Amarillo VA Health Care System Behavioral Health Care Line in Amarillo under the immediate supervision of the Chief Behavioral Health Service.
The LPMHC will be a member of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). The BHIP team is an interdisciplinary team of mental health care professionals that provide comprehensive accessible Veteran-centered mental health care in partnership with the Veterans and when Veteran consents the Veterans personal support person(s). The Behavioral Health Clinic utilizes a broad range of treatment modalities and the incumbent will perform a variety of psychotherapy interventions and service assignments which requires specialized knowledge in the nature and impact of behavioral health conditions on the Veteran and family system.
The LPMHC Completes an initial comprehensive assessment and provides resources and referrals based on this assessment. Treatment plan is developed in collaboration with Veteran and guided by VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guideline. Plan is developed with input from the Veteran and from the Veterans family friends or authorized surrogate when appropriate and with the Veterans consent. Plan is personalized and includes measurable objectives. Plan includes documentation of what treatment is being provided that different treatment options including evidence-based interventions were considered and the ongoing assessment used to determine whether treatment changes are needed. Provider will include referrals for specialty care (e.g. substance use disorder program MHICM suicide prevention) domiciliary programs intensive outpatient treatment and other appropriate interventions. Of utmost concern will be the safety of the client and assurance of effective outcomes for recovery and stabilization.
Provides individual and family clinical services. Services consist of time-limited evidence-based psychotherapy and evidence-informed therapy with the goal of recovery and stabilization. Utilizes measurement-based care to track patient progress and guide treatment decision making. Appropriately monitors and addresses suicidal and homicidal risk.
Establishes a positive working relationship with the client. Regularly monitors and evaluates progress towards goals discusses progress with client and addresses barriers to treatment. Adjusts treatment plans based on treatment response change in psychosocial stressor or life circumstance and change in suicide risk. Follows-up with client after referral or if the client misses a counseling session.
Work Schedule: Typical tour of duty is M-F 8:00am-4:30pm but may be adjusted due to needs of the facility
