Duties

Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to counsel evaluate and enroll outstanding cadet candidates who have the attributes to succeed at the Air Force Academy and meet the needs of the Air and Space Force by communicating with candidates and supporting applicants throughout the admissions cycle.

Duties

  • Processes and evaluates pre-candidate questionaries promotes candidate kits and updates applicants and candidates of their admissions status.
  • Conducts personal telephonic and virtual counseling in response to inquiries on behalf of applicants/candidates.
  • Receives evaluates eligibility and processes applicant/candidate Presidential Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans (CODDV) Children of Medal of Honor Recipients (COMHR) Honor Military Schools (JROTC) and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and Airmen/Guardian (Regular Reserve ANG) nomination requests.
  • Participates in small working groups to review and update policies procedures and complete special projects.

  • Will be required to travel on TDY in accordance with JTR. Will occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station and travel on military and/or commercial aircraft. Must not be afraid of flying
  • Personnel data to which the incumbent may have access is controlled by the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and must be safeguarded appropriately
  • Must keep abreast of developments in the educational counseling field and career field needs of the Air Force as well as occupational needs in civilian life by regularly reading a variety of professional journals and related publications
  • Overtime may be required
  • May be required to perform other duties in support of extended mission requirements based on the scope of the mission during times of conflict or staffing shortages
  • May have additional duties assigned

Qualifications

In order to qualify you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-1702 Education and Training Technician Series.

Specialized Experience Internal Candidates: One year of specialized experience for GS-05 grade level or higher in the federal service whichincludes knowledge of operating computer applications Microsoft products (to include Word Excel PowerPoint) and office automation devices. Knowledge of college admissions practices. Knowledge of analyzing and evaluating pertinent documents to include high school and college transcripts application forms as well as other official documents and making recommendations on candidate records.

Specialized Experience External Candidates: One year of specialized experience for GS-06 grade/level or equivalent in the federal service which includes knowledge of operating computer applications Microsoft products (to include Word Excel PowerPoint) and office automation devices. Knowledge of college admissions practices. Knowledge of analyzing and evaluating pertinent documents to include high school and college transcripts application forms as well as other official documents and making recommendations on candidate records.

EDUCATION: I have successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to this position which demonstrates the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Ihave a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Therefore I have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Expert knowledge of college admissions practices from initiating an application to final admittance.

2. Knowledge of operating computer applications Microsoft products (to include Word Excel PowerPoint) and office automation devices.

3. Skill in analyzing and evaluating pertinent documents to include high school and college transcripts application forms as well as other official documents and making recommendations on candidate records.

4. Ability to interpret and apply Title 10 USC DoD Instructions DAF Instructions agency instructions policies procedures and precedents regarding complex admissions cases.

5. Ability to tactfully provide guidance and counseling to prospective candidates and general admissions policies to the public at large. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and work in a professional manner with senior officers and Federal officials such as Congressional staffers Admissions Liaison Officers and other agency staff members.

6. Ability to perform work independently and in small groups or teams.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
