Job Summary

Summary

This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR Position Description Number Dand is part of the NJ FMS 8 National Guard.

The purpose of this position is to supervise workers either directly or through subordinate leaders in accomplishing trades and labor work operations in a segment of an organization group or work shift.

Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR WSyou will:

Plan use of subordinate workers equipment facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explain work requirements methods and procedures.
Develop publish and ensure employee compliance with standing operating procedures.
Manage maintenance backlog through coordination with other maintenance activities.
Determine training needs of subordinates and arranges for accomplishment.
Set performance standards and make formal appraisals of subordinate work performance.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing states National Guard. Military Grades: E-7 TO CW2

Additional Employment Requirements:

-Participation in direct deposit is mandatory

-May be required to successfully complete a probationary period

-Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation

-Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service

You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trial period to assess performance conduct agency needs public interest and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest.

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions:

Military Grade:

Min: E7 and Max: CW2

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments

Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs simple preventative maintenance tasks and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least 36 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to:

Direct and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.
Require the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines.
Provide knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.
Adapt existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
Demonstrate the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts and knowledge of shop processes.
