Job Summary

Summary

The Pacific West Region is recruiting for summer seasonal SEASONAL Administrative Support Assistant (OA) GS-0303-5/6/7 positions intended to assist permanent staff with administrative duties.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty is March-May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Open to the first 250applicants or until 02/11/2026 whichever comes first.


Duties

The Pacific West Region is recruiting for temporary seasonal positions not to exceed 1039 hours work in a service year. Dates of employment will vary depending on funding weather conditions and visitation. Within regulatory limitations the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending upon work availability and funding.

Major Duties:

  • Provide administrative information and assistance to supervisors staff and tenants on the practical and technical aspects of administration to include housing/tenant management time and attendance budget and finance acquisition and property management and other administrative support services.
  • Assist with budget formulation; carry out budget execution duties including tracking and reconciling expenditures and preparing and submitting or entering finance documents and transactions including fleet utilization.
  • Use computers and appropriate software for data collection analysis and collating. Prepare reports forms and tabular material providing proper formatting for information processing.
  • Procure goods and services under the micro purchase threshold.
  • Performs or oversees supply functions including receiving incoming supplies materials and equipment. Orders and maintains stock items such as office supplies.

Crater Lake National Park (CLRA): Crater Lake OR (GS-05) - Government housing may be available. Overtime may be required. The typical seasonal is May-November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Craters of the Moon (CRMO): Duty station can be at any of the following cities: Arco ID/ Hagerman ID/ Jerome ID/ Seattle WA/ Wisdom MT/ Lewiston ID/ Walla Walla WA (GS-05) - Government housing available. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Devils Postpile National Monument (DEPO): Mammoth Lakes CA (GS-07) - Government housing may be available. The typical seasonal is April-November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Haleakala National Park (HALE): Kula HI (GS-05) - The typical seasonal is May-November but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding. A 8.64% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is currently authorized subject to change

Joshua Tree National Park (JOTR): Twentynine Palms CA (GS-06) - Government housing may be available. Overtime may be required. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Kalaupapa National Historical Park (KALA): Kalaupapa HI (GS-07) - Government housing available. The typical seasonal is April- October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding. A 8.64% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is currently authorized subject to change.

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park (LEWI): Astoria OR (GS-05) - The typical seasonal is March-September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Mount Ranier National Park (MORA): Longmire WA (GS-5/6) - Government housing is available. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Pearl Harbor (PERL): Honolulu HI (GS-07) - The typical seasonal is June- December but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding. A 8.64% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is currently authorized subject to change.

Redwood National Park (REDW): Crescent City and Orick CA (GS-05) - Government housing may be available. The typical seasonal is March-September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO): Thousand Oaks CA (GS-06) - The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks (SEKI): Sequoia National Park CA (GS-05/06/07) - Government housing may be available. Overtime may be required. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area (WHIS): Whiskeytown CA (GS-05) - Government housing may be available. Overtime may be required. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Yosemite National Park (YOSE): El Portal or Yosemite National Park CA (GS-05) - Government housing is available. Overtime may be required. The typical seasonal is April-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions project needs or funding.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

    • U.S. Citizenship required.
    • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
    • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
    • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
    • CRLA LEWI PERL REDW SEKI YOSE - You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists) you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued drivers license that is current and has not been revoked suspended canceled or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued drivers license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation and again every year or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities) and at your own expense all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid drivers licenses whether current or past possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State drivers license.
    • CRLA KALA LEWI MORA SEKI YOSE - You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
    • You may be required to work on-call evenings weekends holidays overtime and shift work.
    • DEPO MORA- You may be required to travel occasionally or overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
    • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
    • Must type at least 40 wpm.
    • Travel transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid. Relocation expenses will be the employees responsibility.

    Qualifications

    All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST or when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 02/11/2026).

    Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position starting and ending dates of employment (month/year) and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e. work 40 hours a week rather than indicating full-time). If part-time the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

    SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs administrative work and a typing speed of 40 Words per Minute (WPM) is required. You must certify your typing speed in the Assessment Questionnaire. Failure to provide this information will result in your being determined ineligible.

    - AND-

    To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

    EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as organizing functions of an office; making travel arrangements and preparing travel vouchers preparing and reviewing correspondence; assisting with budget activities; processing time and attendance records; providing administrative support services; and utilizing computer skills to navigate through computer software. You must include hours per week worked.
    -OR-
    EDUCATION:
    Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business secretarial or technical school junior college college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours 45 quarter hours or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business secretarial or technical school. You must include transcripts.
    -OR-

    Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example I have 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement) combined with three (3) years of college study (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours). NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement). One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

    To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement in addition to the Selective Factor above.

    EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience may include performing a wide variety of transactions for more than one type if assigned activity and functional specialization. Assignments are subject to different sets of rules regulations and procedures. Examines issues and determines a course of action using comprehensive knowledge of rules regulations and other guidelines relating to the program area assigned. Uses knowledge attained through extensive increasingly difficult and practical experience in the subject matter field requiring an ability to interpret and apply regulatory and procedural requirements to process unusually difficult and complicated transactions.
    You must include hours per week worked.

    To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement in addition to the Selective Factor above.

    EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience may include maintaining a filing system both electronic and hard copy the use of computers to develop correspondence memos forms and other standardized documents knowledge of preparing time and attendance; knowledge of administrative processes and procedures in travel and knowledge of commonly used software including word processing. Knowledge of property identification and accountability procedures and experience coordinating purchasing activities; experience processing budget documents recording expenditure transfers and reconciling a budget. You must include hours per week worked.

    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

    CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.     Education

    To qualify based on education you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name school name credit hours course level major(s) and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

    If you are using
    education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

    There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-06 and GS-07 grade level of this announcement.

    A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

    A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent temporary or term position. A Federal employee who is transferring to the National Park Service from another component bureau or Federal agency and who does not meet the conditions under 5 CFR 575.102 is not eligible for a recruitment incentive.

    Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402b7) based on series and grade anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).

    If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period you are still welcome to apply. However please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.

    The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours unless granted an exception by OPM.

    Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels project needs employee performance or other considerations.


    Physical Demands: The work is mostly sedentary for long periods of time and requires some walking crouching and light lifting.

    Working Conditions: The work is typically conducted within an office environment.
