The Fire Departments duty is to provide the community with outstanding service aimed to safeguard our citizens and property. The 46 dedicated professionals of the Fire Department strive to deliver high quality paramedic and rescue fire suppression fire prevention public safety and education and emergency preparedness programs to the community. The Fire Department operates from two fire stations staffed by two advanced life support engine companies one advanced life support truck company and one battalion commander operating 24 hours a day collectively responding annually to approximately 8500 all-risk emergency responses.Job Overview

Lateral Candidate Qualifications (All required certifications/licenses MUST be submitted with the completed employment application)
- Possession of a California State Certified Firefighter 1 or graduation from a California State Board of Fire Service Approved Fire Academy (or equivalent Fire Academy) is required.
- Possession of a valid California Paramedic License is required at time of application.
- Experience working as a Firefighter in a municipal setting.
- Possession of a current Orange County Paramedic Accreditation is required prior to the completion of the Employees Orientation Academy.
- A valid California Class A B or C Drivers License is required at time of appointment. A Firefighter endorsement must be obtained during the probationary period and maintained throughout employment.
- Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Academy Graduate Qualifications(All required certifications/licenses MUST be submitted with the completed employment application)- Proof of completing a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or Biddle Physical Ability Test (PAT) within the last 12 months.
- FireTEAM test through NTN within the last 12 are required to pay a fee to NTN to take the FireTEAM exam. You may visit the NTN website at for more information regarding test dates/sites. NTN scores are considered valid with the City of Fountain Valley if obtained within 12 months of application date.

SELECTION PROCESS:
- APPLICATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REVIEW:A review of each application and required licenses/certifications will be conducted.
- ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weighted 60%)Evaluates the candidates experience training and qualifications that are essential for successful performance on the job.
- PARAMEDIC SKILLS ASSESSMENT: (Weighted 40%)Evaluates the candidates knowledge ofpre-hospital medicine as it relates to the National Registry standard.
INTERVIEW/ASSESSMENT DATES: The oral interview and paramedic skills assessment are tentativelyscheduledfor Monday March 16 and Tuesday March 17 2026.
RESULTS:Results of the testing process will be used to establish an Eligibility list which will be valid until exhausted or a maximum of one year.
