Job Summary

Summary

This position is located within the Department of War Immediate Office of the Secretary of War. Assigned to the DoW Executive Secretariat the position serves as Senior Staff Assistant and supports senior staff of the Secretarys immediate section. The incumbent provides administrative support to manage and carry out day-to-day operations monitor special interest items and coordinate activities to manage workflow priorities and resources in support of organizational priorities and objectives.


Duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Provides administrative support to manage and carry out day-to-day operations monitor special interest items and coordinate activities to manage workflow priorities and resources in support of organizational priorities and objectives.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on administrative functions and provides professional support to the senior staff by managing workflows monitoring activities and coordinating on assignments.
  • Provides oversight to the staff responsible for managing Senior Staff calendars including the Senior Military Assistant and Senior Advisors.
  • Reviews and consolidates responses reports actions to produce information which often includes the presentation of diverse views and opinions.
  • In a rapid response environment receives drafts and prepares a variety of personal correspondence and information material including highly sensitive subjects for the Secretary of War and DoW Executive Secretary signature.

  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A Special Background Investigation (SBI) is required with favorable adjudication by a determining authority.
  • This position may require up to 15% of occasional travel away from the normal duty station for official business on military or commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements described below.

may qualify at the GS-14 level if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in:

  • Applying knowledge of administrative requirements and operating procedures fact-finding analytical and investigative techniques to gather facts resolve discrepancies and provide consistent and effective services.
  • Applying a mastery of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods concepts principles practices and techniques dealing with program management for improvement and program effectiveness.
  • Applying knowledge of sources and research methods to develop authoritative information on the programs policies and functions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

Probationary Periods: As a condition of employment for accepting this position you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public determining if your employment advances the public interest we may consider:
