Job Summary

Join our team at Keolis Amey Metrolink (KAM) the largest light rail network in the UK!

Join our team as a Heavy Maintenance Technician and play a pivotal role in keeping KAM tram assets safe reliable and optimised for service.

As a member of the newly established Heavy Maintenance function you will work alongside the Heavy Maintenance Manager and Tram Maintenance Team to deliver and support the delivery of all planned and corrective maintenance related activities ensuring the highest standards of safety quality and operational performance.

In this role you will provide technical leadership expert guidance and best-practice advice stepping up to lead maintenance operations in the Heavy Maintenance Managers absence.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Perform removal and refit of tram components including bogies pantographs couplers and brake equipment strictly following maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of system failures implementing corrective works to prevent recurrence and improve fleet reliability.
  • Lead quality assurance tasks on newly overhauled equipment ensuring compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
  • Execute and oversee complex heavy maintenance activities providing technical guidance to Fitter colleagues and advising on best practice.
  • Step in to lead day-to-day maintenance operations in the absence of the Heavy Maintenance Manager maintaining safety quality and performance standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety professionalism and inclusivity actively contributing to safety workshops risk assessments and zero-harm initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date asset management records across paper and digital systems.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal teams and external partners TfGM OEMs and suppliers to support maintenance delivery and continuous improvement.

What youll bring:

  • NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline Advanced Modern Apprenticeship or equivalent experience with experience supervising and mentoring.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy maintenance practices within a large multi-disciplined team including fault-finding techniques such as FMEA and root cause analysis.
  • Proven experience in a safety-critical maintenance environment delivering high-quality work and maintenance completion to plan.
  • Highly developed practical maintenance skills with experience on complex systems including removal refit and inspection of major components.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings schematics and maintenance instructions including torque specifications and material grades.
  • Skilled in fault diagnosis root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to improve asset reliability.
  • Competent in maintaining accurate asset management and maintenance records both paper-based and digital.
  • Strong attention to detail able to follow instructions precisely and work collaboratively within a team to meet operational objectives.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written and confident providing technical guidance to colleagues.
  • IT literate including Microsoft Office and digital maintenance systems and flexible to work shift patterns as required.
