As an OPERATIONS SUPPORT SPECIALIST you will deliver essential management services supporting USCIS operations assist leadership in administering policies and procedures provide expert guidance on complex administrative programs and ensure exceptional customer service to managers supervisors and employees.


Duties

  • Organizational Location: This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services within Northeast Regional Office and are assigned based on the need of the agency.
  • Oversees the allocation of funds in the Federal Financial Management System (FFMS) for expenses such as purchase card travel purchase orders reimbursable work authorizations distribution of work allocations etc.
  • Manages and monitors operational activities and requirements within allocated budget levels including general expenses overtime and awards.
  • Prepares recurring special and one-time budget reports including those with budget allocation and expenditure trends.
  • Develops and maintains systems of financial accountability and control over all financial activities obligations and transactions.
  • Oversees funding decisions (approval/disapproval) of financial obligations in FFMS and Travel Manager.

    Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

    Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.

    The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02/11/2026.

    Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02/11/2026.


    GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
    • Monitoring operational activities and requirements within budget allocations;
    • Providing advice on a variety of financial management and budget programs and procedures;
    • Evaluating and improving budget services and processes;
    • Creating budget reports recognizing and reporting on expenditure trend data.
