Gardens Supervisor
Canterbury College is a high-performing award-winning Anglican ELC to 12 school serving the dynamic growth corridor of Logan northern Gold Coast the Scenic Rim and southern Brisbane.
Canterbury was established in 1987 as an academic school in the grammar school tradition. There is an unrelenting focus in the school on all-roundedness in our students reflecting that academics sport performing arts service and leadership are core dimensions of a Canterbury education.
We are seeking an experienced Gardens Supervisor to lead the presentation maintenance and ongoing development of landscaped areas across the College. This role plays a key part in ensuring our outdoor spaces are safe attractive and well-maintained supporting the overall appearance functionality and sustainability of the campus.
Your Role:
The Gardens Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of grounds and garden maintenance while also working directly on-site. The role combines practical horticultural expertise with team leadership planning and contractor management to ensure consistently high presentation standards across the College.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day grounds and garden maintenance across the College campus.
- Lead and participate in mowing pruning planting weeding and general landscape upkeep to a high standard.
- Plan and deliver seasonal planting landscaping projects and continuous improvement works.
- Allocate tasks set priorities and provide on-the-job guidance and support to grounds staff.
- Ensure lawns gardens ovals pathways and outdoor areas are safe compliant and well-presented.
- Operate maintain and service grounds and gardening equipment including ride-on mowers and small machinery.
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient sustainable water use.
- Manage weed control and fertiliser programs making recommendations to improve garden and lawn health.
- Coordinate and supervise external landscaping contractors monitoring quality safety and value for money.
- Maintain records assist with ordering materials and provide reports on gardens and grounds activities.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in gardens grounds or landscaping preferably in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of horticultural practices plant care and irrigation systems.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to lead motivate and work collaboratively with a small team.
- Commitment to safety sustainability and high presentation standards.
Essential Qualifications:
- Certificate III or IV in Horticulture Parks and Gardens or equivalent experience.
- Chemical handling certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Positive Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
