About the opportunity:
Launch Housing delivers long term housing in the form of affordable social and general lease rents made up of Launch owned or managed units (approximately 229) across metropolitan Melbourne the majority being in the inner north and northwest as part of our mission to End Homelessness.

Launch Housings Youth Support Services programs support young people aged 16-25 located in South-East Melbourne who are either unable to live at home or experiencing difficulties in maintaining addition to providing housing support the Youth Services programs focus on education employment development of independent living skills and enhancing community connection.

The Life and Living Skills Support Worker assesses and assists with the immediate and ongoing support needs of clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness through the provision of a range of intervention options ensuring that the clients needs are translated into a personal program that encourages the clients independence empowerment autonomy and dignity. This support may be provided in a range of environments including funded accommodation services (THM Youth Refuge) group work settings private housing or via assertive outreach to clients.

In addition to providing one to one support to at risk young people The role has a unique life and living skills-based group work component built into the service delivery model. It is this roles responsibility to design promote budget for and facilitate group work sessions throughout the year. This group is aimed at young people wishing to further develop their knowledge and participate in sessions around specific subjects such as managing legal or financial issues fitness and nutrition moving out of home general health and accessing other community support services.

Permanent part-time role (60.8 hours per fortnight) based at Cheltenham and South Melbourne.

What youll be doing:

    • Provide an integrated and comprehensive assessment and case management service to young people who are seeking ways to live independently.
    • Work with young people to develop a structured support plan addressing identified life and living skills.
    • Develop promote budget for and facilitate life and living skill group programs for up to 15 young people.
    • Initiate and attend case management meetings with other professionals involved with young people to ensure collaborative service delivery.
    • Provide secondary consultation and expert knowledge to peers/colleagues in relation to life and living skills and group work programs.
    • Connect young people to other appropriate supports including services from other organizations in order to achieve agreed goals and outcomes.
    • Assist young people to maximize their options and potential by facilitating their involvement in community and social activities education employment and training opportunities.

What were looking for (key selection criteria):

    • Demonstrated experience in client facing human services social work or other relevant discipline with a preference for an understanding of housing and homelessness policy context and systems and experience in group work settings.
    • Tertiary qualifications in Youth work Social Work Psychology or a related discipline highly desirable.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
    • Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate with young people of diverse backgrounds and abilities individually and in group work settings.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • A demonstrated commitment to working ethically with young people as defined by the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector.
    • Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths base practice frameworks.
    • Valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Launch Housing and our mission to end homelessness.
$45.92 - $47.12 an hour
