Job Summary

As a member of the Student Disability and Accessibility Team looking primarily after Auslan Interpreting bookings for students at Griffith and other institutions as well as more indepth support for Griffith students you will:

  • Facilitate the inclusion of Deaf students in their programs and the broader University community by negotiating reasonable adjustments and coordinating the provision of support services to these students across all Griffith campuses including students studying through Griffiths Digital Campus. 
  • Coordinate the Educational Auslan Interpreter booking arrangements for internal and external students and clients from receipt of booking through to follow up of accounts being paid. This can be across 5 campuses 4 different institutions and their varying campuses approximately 20 deaf students and 40 Auslan Interpreters.
  • Some service delivery and movement between campuses may be required.

About you

It is essential you can demonstrate that you have substantial experience in working with Deaf students and staff have exceptional Auslan skills and administration skills.

In addition to be successful in this position and to enjoy the rewarding nature of the role it is important you have highly developed skills in the following areas:

  • Lived experience or high level Auslan and experience interacting with Deaf Community.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills with a high level of self-assurance. You will need to clearly articulate your ideas and instructions and enjoy working with on-going situations. 
  • Active Listening skills to understand and address student concerns effectively.
  • Emotional Intelligence using empathy to understand and relate to students emotions and challenges whilst maintaining professional boundaries and providing support.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and respond effectively.
  • Good time management and organisation skills enabling you to prioritize tasks efficiently to manage workload.
  • Proven ability to manage Auslan interpreter bookings changes and calendars for multiple stakeholders.
  • Skilled in maintaining accurate administrative systems including purchase orders/Invoices budget tracking expense registers and electronic student records.
  • Confident using databases and digital filing systems with high attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with critical thinking enabling you to analyse situations and develop effective solutions whilst adapting and adjusting to changing circumstances and processes.

What we offer
This is a full-time fixed-term (12 months) position (with possibility of ongoing) and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan) campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Salary Range
The full-time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 7 range $101068 - $109496 per annum 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $118249 - $128110 per annum.


Qualifications :

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. special education education human services occupational therapy) with work experience with people with disabilities.
