Summary
Plans directs and coordinates manufacturing engineering activity in an industrial plant.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the Manufacturing Engineering Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assign tasks to department engineers based on program requirements and plant needs.
- Support assigned engineers with technical direction and prioritization.
- Oversee and validate the development of manufacturing documentation including TDP (Technical Data Package) Bill of Material Process Flow / Routings Floor Layouts PFMEA Equipment Lists Tool / Fixture Lists and Work Instructions.
- Oversee planning of product tooling/fixture designs to ensure efficient production methods and maintain schedule.
- Oversee Enterprise Resource Planning Software (ERP) population with manufacturing information.
- Conduct Performance Evaluations for directly reporting employees and create Career Development and Training Plans.
- Develop and document standardized business processes for engineering and operations.
- Assist in resolving manufacturing and/or quality issues.
- Analyze and plan work force utilization space requirements workflow and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confer with management and production staff to determine engineering feasibility cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing product.
- Advise management of new developments which may affect profit schedule costs customer relations and/or inter-department relations.
- Participate as requested on process engineering requirements for customer RFQs. Provide direction on processing methods and verify feasibility.
- Participate in corrective action meetings to investigate root causes and implement engineering changes where needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by researching efficiency improvements and developing proposals; includes the oversight and implementation of improved procedures and new equipment installations.
- Support communication with customers and suppliers as needed to support sales program timing or quality concerns.
- Assist Plant Managers on plant efficiency scrap rates staff meetings etc.

- Extensive working knowledge of manufacturing practices in a diverse range of processes.
- Understanding of GD&T applications.
- Extensive knowledge of process flows material flow assistive tooling devices.
- Excellent organizational analytical interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and varying environment.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to apply problem solving tools and methodology to a variety of manufacturing and business process issues.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software preferred.
- Project management experience preferred.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering or other engineering field and ten (10) years manufacturing leadership experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of fabrication/machining and metal experience along with program/project management experience preferred. Experience with precision measuring equipment helpful.
