As Canadas leading mental illness research facility CAMHs Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute (CFMHRI) is home to scientists staff and research trainees conducting leading research to improve the understanding of the brain and the causes the biomarkers and cures for mental illness as well as research to advance the prevention and treatment for mental illness and addictions across the lifespan. The Pharmacogenetics Research Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is a leader in Canadian personalized mental health and addiction research. The clinic is seeking a part-time contract (1-year) Scientific Associate to support and advance a highly collaborative interdisciplinary research program focused on psychiatric genetics pharmacogenomics and precision mental health that encompasses fundamental and clinical research. Reporting to the Scientific Director of the Molecular Science department the Scientific Associate is a doctorate-level subject matter expert whose responsibilities include but are not limited to providing advanced scientific and methodological expertise across multiple research projects in psychiatric genetics pharmacogenomics and treatment response; preparing ethics protocols and renewal reports; supporting the design execution analysis and interpretation of large-scale genomic and deeply phenotyped clinical datasets; leading and contributing to manuscript preparation grant applications progress reports and knowledge translation outputs; implementation of study-specific standard operating procedures; collaborating closely with clinician-scientists biostatisticians and research staff to ensure high scientific rigor and reproducibility; and providing functional oversight of staff and trainees occasionally having direct supervision of staff direct reports if need be and warranted by the scope of the research being supported. The Scientific Associate must contribute to the strategic growth of research programs aligned with CAMH such as expanding capacity talent and innovation and must support applications for internal and external funding opportunities. The Scientific Associate will support scientists and technical staff in the design and execution of studies following established standard operating procedures but does not engage in independent research. This position is located at 250 College Street.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics Computational Biology Computational Neuroscience or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of research experience in pharmacogenomic analyses psychiatric phenotyping and statistical or computational methods.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with analysis tools and methods for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) polygenic risk score calculations multi-omic data integration
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the discipline protocols and regulatory requirements in the area of personalized health
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and collaborative research.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the scientific community.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with populations of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary research environments ideally including clinical translational research settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with large consortia datasets and research governance structures.
  • Demonstrated mentorship or supervisory experience.
  • Experience contributing to grant-funded research programs.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary is competitive and based on experience with a hiring range of $91758.17 $114697.71per year.
  • Employees in this role may progress within the full pay range of $91758.17 $137637.25 per year
