Duties Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Patrols park facilities for unsafe and deteriorating conditions in City of Austin parks and facilities.
Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of park information rules regulations laws ordinances and municipal codes.
Assists first responder agencies provides first aid and determines need for and requests emergency services.
Anticipates and solves problems and/or provides reports to appropriate agency.
Educates park visitors on park amenities safety rules and regulations.
Issues notices of park exclusions for violations and determines need for and calls for police assistance.
Completes incident reports and other routine documentation.
Organizes and/or administers educational programs for the public.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in the Park Ranger Cadet Practicum at Akins Early College High School.
Graduation from the City of Austin Park Ranger Academy and Field Training Program within two (2) weeks of start date.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with diverse populations and communities including interacting with individuals of diverse social cultural economic and educational backgrounds.

The purpose of thisSeasonal Park Ranger Cadet Iposition will be for cadets to participate in a 10-week paid internship with responsibilities including hands-on job training outdoor leadership skill building and practicing and performing similar job duties of full-time Park Rangers. Under general supervision Park Ranger Cadets will support full-time Park Rangers as ambassadors for City of Austin Parks and facilities by ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for park patrons.
