Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in related field

Masters degree in related field (preferred)

Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in related field

Valid Supervision and Mid-Management Certificate (preferred)

Three years of teaching experience at the secondary level

Ability to work with school staff and parents

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership in the delivery of transitional programs and services for students with moderate to significant cognitive disabilities through the implementation of post-secondary transition goals staff development program development evaluation and model teaching.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Effectively model teaching strategies.
2. Observe specific students in various settings to make recommendations for individual IEP and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
3. Assist teachers responsible for educating students with disabilities in setting up transition related services for students.
4. Assist in the mentoring of new teachers responsible for educating students with disabilities in the Work Based Learning Program.
5. Provide written feedback to teachers diagnostic specialists and campus administrators.
6. Assist in the development of instructional activities curriculum planning/writing and staff development.
7. Model lessons for campus-level staff and for purposes of informal evaluation of students.
8. Attend staffing meetings and ARD meetings when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.
9. Assist teachers and parents in data collection and in the evaluation of student progress.
10. Promote the inclusion of students with disabilities with those students who do not have disabilities.
11. Assist in ordering a standard list of materials for new and established classes.
12. Assist in the selection and ordering of instructional materials and in determining appropriate strategies for using these materials in the classroom (including adaptive assistive technology).
13. Attend content or program specific meetings when requested.
14. Assist campus staff in developing schedules for effective and efficient use of special education personnel.
15. Assist with coordination of implementation of programs and curriculum.
16. Meet with Coordinator and Program Specialist regularly to create program consistency across the district.
17. Interpret and communicate federal state and local requirements necessary for program compliance.
18. Ensure compliance with State Performance Plan Indicators

Equipment Used:

Personal computer copier printer and fax machine.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
