Summary
This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER Position Description Number Dand is part of the NJ UTES National Guard.
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER WLyou will:
- Assign work orders to specific crew members and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge skills and abilities.
- Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors instructions work orders and established shop procedures on work sequence procedures methods and deadlines; and direct other workers to follow supervisors instructions and to meet deadlines.
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment combat tactical and automotive vehicles.
- Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing cleaning reinstalling or replacing defective parts of components and systems.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Additional Employment Requirements:
-Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
-May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
-Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
-Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trial period to assess performance conduct agency needs public interest and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest.

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments
Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.
*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work as a surface maintenance mechanic. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed as a surface maintenance mechanic.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 24 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to plan organize provide guidance and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of mobile equipment maintenance; and must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
