This vacancy is for aWGWelder located in the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Coast Guard INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY MIAMI in MIAMI BEACH Florida.


Duties

You will serve as a Welder and be responsible for work on Lighthouses aids to navigation (ATON) barges boats ships and small vessels and their associated equipment. Selectee welds the various components of a ship including the shell broken or cracked engine parts framing inner bottoms tanks boilers decks bulkheads superstructures masts stacks ventilation ducts railings Class I piping and similar components.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Welding work frequently involves removing and replacing interferences in way of welds fitting brackets and machinery foundations and fitting minor structural braces gussets or patches.
  • Taking all fire and safety precautions adjusts all welding controls to insure that qualified welding procedures are maintained.
  • Applying knowledge of a wide range of manual welding processes and difficult welds using processes such as oxyacetylene oxyhydrogen and other industrial gases.
  • Making independent judgments and decision within framework of oral and written instructions and accepted trade practices processes and procedures when completing assignments.
  • Selectee must have knowledge of welding standards and how various metals and alloys such as different kinds of steel aluminum cast iron nickel Monel metal brass copper bronze and titanium react to different welding processes and techniques.

Recruitment Incentive
Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent position are authorized to receive a one-time recruitment incentive of 25% of the salary including locality for this position. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12-month service agreement. Newly appointed refers to the first appointment (regardless of tenure) as an employee of the Federal Government an appointment following a break in service of at least 90 days from a previous appointment as an employee of the Federal Government or in certain cases an appointment following a break in service of less than 90 days from a previous appointment as an employee of the Federal Government.

Relocation Incentive
Selectee(s) for this position who are current federal employees on permanent appointments and will be moving outside of the current commuting area of their current position to accept this position are authorized to receive a one-time relocation incentive of 25% of the salary including locality for this position. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12-month service agreement. The employee must establish a residence in the new geographic area prior to payment.

Student Loan
Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.

All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.

    Qualifications

    Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance scope and quality of all experience and training regardless of where or how acquired.

    To qualify for the Welder WGapplicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position:

    • Ability To Do the Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) to be considered eligible for the position.
    • Technical Practices (theoretical precise artistic)
    • Use of measuring instructions
    • Ability to interpret instructions specifications etc. (including blueprint reading)
    • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
    • Knowledge of Metals
    • Dexterity and Safey
    Skill in troubleshooting and repairing equipment in marine (maritime) industrial institutional or commercial settings providing the full range of electrical support in the areas of installation diagnosis repairing of electrical wiring pulling of wires and all other preventative maintenance. Have repaired/troubleshoot/diagnosis marine (maritime) generators(genset) and Transformers.
