DescriptionThe Internal Medicine Simulation Lab Technician is responsible for the technical and operational support of simulation-based education and training activities within the internal medicine department. This role ensures the effective setup operation maintenance and troubleshooting of simulation equipment manikins task trainers and associated audiovisual systems. The technician collaborates closely with faculty clinicians and learners to facilitate high-fidelity simulation experiences that enhance clinical skills teamwork and patient safety.
Responsibilities- Simulation Preparation and Support
- Prepare simulation labs for scheduled sessions including setting up manikins task trainers medical equipment and supplies according to scenario requirements.
- Operate and program high- and low-fidelity manikins ensuring accurate physiological responses and scenario flow.
- Support in situ simulations in clinical areas as needed ensuring minimal disruption to patient care.
- Assist faculty and instructors in scenario delivery including role-playing moulage (simulated wounds/injuries) and scenario timing.
- Technical Operations
- Operate and maintain audiovisual systems for recording and debriefing simulation sessions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with simulation equipment software and AV systems in real time.
- Perform routine maintenance calibration and inventory management of simulation equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment servicing and repairs as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with internal medicine faculty simulation educators and multidisciplinary teams to ensure simulation activities meet educational objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and orientation to faculty staff and learners on the use of simulation equipment and lab protocols.
- Participate in scenario development meetings offering input on technical feasibility and logistics.
- Quality and Safety
- Support the identification and reporting of latent safety threats and systems issues observed during simulation activities.
- Adhere to infection control safety and confidentiality standards within the simulation environment.
- Assist in the implementation of best practices for simulation-based education including scenario fidelity debriefing support and learner assessment.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records of simulation activities equipment usage and maintenance logs.
- Assist with scheduling inventory management and procurement of simulation supplies.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to simulation technology and medical education.
Qualifications- Associates or Bachelors degree in healthcare biomedical engineering medical technology or a related field preferred.
- Experience in a clinical laboratory or simulation environment strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with internal medicine procedures terminology and equipment.
- Strong organizational problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to support simulation activities outside regular business hours as needed.
