Job Summary


One YMCA is seeking a motivated Community Engagement & Volunteering Coordinator to support the delivery of Family Centre services across local communities. Working closely with the Community Engagement & Volunteering Lead and Locality Managers you will help identify community need develop volunteering opportunities and ensure services are inclusive high quality and responsive to families.

This is a varied role combining community outreach volunteer coordination partnership working and frontline service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Support identification of gaps in local provision and work with partners to deliver appropriate services.
Develop and support volunteering student and work experience opportunities.
Recruit induct train and supervise volunteers delivering over 100 hours per month ensuring all HR procedures are followed.
Review and develop volunteer role descriptions particularly supporting the Universal Offer Little Herts.
Track and report volunteer hours maintaining accurate records for monthly quarterly and annual reports.
Work towards agreed KPIs and quality standards including Investors in Volunteers.
Encourage feedback from parents and children to support service development.
Support the day-to-day running of Family Centres including bookings enquiries risk assessments and daily checks.
Liaise with partners such as adult learning providers to promote courses and opportunities.
Maintain up-to-date local information points (physical and digital).
Represent the Family Centre at multi-agency meetings as required.
Independently plan and deliver community outreach and pop-up events.

Skills & Attributes
Strong IT skills (MS Office and Salesforce or equivalent).
Excellent communication and people skills.
Ability to work independently and manage sensitive conversations.
Organised proactive and self-motivated.

Knowledge & Experience
Experience recruiting training and supervising volunteers or placements.
Experience working with community groups and partners.
Experience tracking activity and working towards KPIs and quality standards.
Ability to independently deliver community sessions and events.

Please note a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle and business-use insurance is essential for this role.

This is a Full Time role.

Working Pattern: 4 days ( option extended to 5 days after April 2026)

  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund

The Family Support Service is part of the Hertfordshire Family Centre Service. We offer support advice and guidance for families from pregnancy through to when a child reaches the end of Primary School (11 years old). Our purpose is to support families to receive seamless integrated services support and information on key areas relating to family life. This is provided through universal services where there are emerging needs along with when more specialist or 1;1 support would be beneficial. Services can be delivered through 1:1 group sessions and activities accessed within centres community venues or support workers will visit families within their homes to ensure individual familys needs are met.

The geographical area we cover includes Broxbourne East Herts and Welwyn and Hatfield Districts (the East Quadrant of Hertfordshire). With our purpose being to support children and families to have the best start in life develop well and thrive.
