The facultys relevant Bachelors and Masters programmes draw a diverse and highly motivated student population from the Netherlands and abroad. The section International Law teaches a first-year and a third-year Bachelor course in international Law (in Dutch) and offers the Master programmes Public International Law and International Trade and Investment Law (in English).

What you will do

What we ask of you

  • A PhD in the domain of public international law.
  • High-quality research output in the domain of public international law in international journals and/or books.
  • Teaching experience and excellent didactic qualities as evidenced by educational evaluations and teaching qualifications where available.
  • Strong organizational and communications skills.
  • Excellent command of English both written and spoken. Excellent command of Dutch both written and spoken is considered a strong asset.

What we offer you

  • We offer an employment contract for one year with a probationary period of two months. A permanent contract follows if we assess your performance positively.
  • The preferable starting date of the appointment is in August 2026.
  • The employment contract is for 38 hours a week.
  • Your salary depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract ranges between 4728 to 6433 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement the 30 % ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

Where will you work

You will join a vibrant research community and successful educational programmes at the Public International Law section of the Department of International and European Public Law. You will become an active member and contribute to the research of the Amsterdam Center for International Law. ACIL has a strong track-record of excellent research and sustains a dynamic research culture in various areas of international law including its doctrinal theoretical and interdisciplinary dimensions.
