We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Strategy to join our Group Strategy Team which is a small supportive and high-performing team led by Bupas Group Strategy Director.
The Head of Strategy will play an important role in enabling Bupa to define and deliver its strategy and vision. Specifically the Head Of will work on group-level strategy development strategy execution and transformation; reviewing projects in support of our purpose and ambition across the Bupa portfolio and the dynamic health insurance and provision markets we operate in.
This role involves working directly with Bupa senior staff at the Group Head Office in the Market Units (MUs) and at times interacting directly with CEC and Board members.
How youll help us make health happen:
Lead strategic projects and provide insights to facilitate decision making for the Board and Executives
Play a lead role (thought leadership project and stakeholder management with limited supervision) on strategy reviews and end-to-end delivery of high-impact global strategic projects from scoping to mobilisation and delivery - and to agreed levels of quality and timescales.
Throughout provide a structured approach to problem solving evaluating strategic issues in a way that produces innovative insights and generates strategic recommendations that shape the way forward for the business. This will include defining project scope objectives work plans and analyses required to meet scope and ensure timely implementation to the quality standard expected as well as the creation of executable implementation plans.
Insights will be generated through research market and financial analysis and modelling (both qualitative and quantitative). This role will require the identification of issues within the role holders current knowledge and expertise but will also require innovative and creative thinking as projects will often deal with complex questions the business is grappling with.
Support and contribute to Market Unit and Business Unit strategic planning. Ranging from participation in a full strategy review to ad-hoc/intermittent support with idea-generation problem-solving and communications.
Act as a single point of accountability for delivery managing risks dependencies and stakeholder expectations across geographies.
Manage support from external consultants and influence their selection.
Coach project team members (if applicable) and manage inputs from management teams.
Provide effective day to day leverage to Strategy Directors and other senior staff
Work with Strategy Directors to enable them to deliver the functions objectives and milestones e.g. preparation of external presentations medium-term work planning etc.
Prepare effective short briefings for Directors and other senior executives as required for executive review and decision-making.
Help to improve the performance and working of the Strategy team e.g. generating ideas to improve team efficiency effectiveness and ways of working.
Build ambassadorial relationships across Bupa
Build effective relationships with key stakeholders across the business and MUs to promote Group Strategy as a thought partner and expert advisor.
Use personal networks in the organisation to gather information and identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Strengthen strategy skills & healthcare knowledge
Facilitate skills transfer across the Strategy team through formal and informal coaching.
Proactively deepen both personal and team knowledge and expertise on Bupa the healthcare market and broader business strategies and issues where relevant.
Key Skills/Experience/Qualifications needed for this role:
Ideal candidates will have experience from management consulting or roles in a commercial planning finance business development or corporate strategy function. Prior experience of healthcare or health insurance is highly desirable.
Critical thinking: Demonstrated ability to frame and progress complex and ambiguous problems challenge assumptions synthesise inputs and apply experience-based judgement to develop clear strategic perspectives and recommendations.
Self-management & resourcefulness: Works independently taking initiative to identify and overcome barriers with pragmatic workarounds navigating the organisation and comfortably delivers under time pressure. Demonstrated ability to self-manage time to effectively execute and deliver on projects and work streams
Demonstrates strong problemsolving capability with proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative research data gathering and analysisincluding large highvolume datasets. Able to independently define scope and requirements generate meaningful insights and produce highquality analytical outputs using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Thinkcell.
Demonstrates an in depth understanding of advanced strategy analysis principles with deep knowledge of leading strategy tools and frameworks.
Understanding of financial statements and knowledge of the principles and tools of financial analysis.
Engages and communicates effectively with all levels of the organisation providing confidence and clarity to key stakeholders. Excels in communicating key insights through compelling verbal written and visual media.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships throughout the organisation; demonstrating strong influencing skills and working collaboratively to effectively execute projects/tasks where there is no supporting governance or structure in place.
Demonstrates a high level of cultural sensitivity; ability to tailor thinking insights initiatives and ideas to different cultural environments internationally
Leads with gravitas curiosity and empathy. Displays sound judgement with a strong commercial focus and drive to develop and execute the strategy effectively.
A university degree is required; MBA or MPP desirable. Other relevant professional qualifications in finance or strategy are preferable.
