Job Description:
L3Haris is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville AL which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of small medium and large case composite rocket motor hardware.
This position will produce parts components and final assemblies using composite fabrication compression molding metal fabrication modification checkout re-work quality testing and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions schematics diagrams layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Operate various machinery and shop equipment including ovens autoclaves manual lathes CNC lathes CNC milling centers manual mills boring mills presses furnaces mixers grinders swages paint booths fume hoods and overhead cranes.
- Perform basic operations on filament winding machines under supervision with a good understanding of fiber placement and tension control.
- Assist in resin mixing and resin content checks.
- Properly string up a towpreg winding cell including handling the spools stringing up the filament winding machines and assembling/maintaining the towpreg delivery head.
- Learn to fabricate skirt (Skirt Dam Installation Film Adhesive application Unidirectional Mat application).
- Prepare components for lay-up filament winding cure and post cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
- Fabricate and assemble piece parts into completed sub-assembly using assembly tools.
- Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing composite parts.
- Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives core materials and adhesives.
- Build complex layups individually and in small groups.
- Build clean and properly store large tooling.
- Insulate mandrels and composite cases.
- Cast cure and machining of sand mandrels.
- Troubleshoot and resolve less complex issues with the winding process or equipment.
- Provide feedback on the winding process and collaborate with engineers to address concerns.
- Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
- Works with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
