Description of Work

Salary Range: $39671 - $69426

Working closely with and reporting directly to the Correctional Captain II and/or Correctional Associate Warden this position is responsible for providing supervision of subordinate staff conducting shift line-ups making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to the following:
- Conducting investigations and performing searches of persons places and objects.
- Completing reviewing and maintaining time reports duty rosters leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms.
- Making security inspections of the facility and grounds.
- Monitoring posts to ascertain that officers are alert that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are carried out properly.
- Performing rescue functions to include CPR basic first aid physically removing people from dangerous areas and using fire-fighting equipment to include fire hoses extinguishers and breathing apparatus.
- Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Supervisory skills in a prison facility
  • Knowledge of facility operations
  • Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures
  • Report writing skills

Necessary Special Qualifications:

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

This is a full-time position working rotating shifts withState Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Sampson Correctional Institution is in Clinton North Carolina and houses up to 462 male offenders in a medium/minimum custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant

Or
Two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II

Or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
