The Department

The Safety & Wellbeing team is made up of four high performing work areas (Injury Management Health and Safety Wellbeing and Training) that work in collaboration to deliver an end-to end Health and Safety business partnering service across four campuses; The Alfred Sandringham Caulfield and Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic.

The Role

The OVA Trainer plays a critical role in supporting the safety capability development and wellbeing of Alfred Care Group employees. As part of the Safety & Wellbeing team the role is responsible for delivering high-quality evidence-based education that builds staff confidence and competence in the prevention reduction and therapeutic management of clinical aggression in the workplace.

The primary objective of OVA training is to support the education and capability development of staff to prevent reduce and therapeutically manage the impact of aggressive or violent incidents that may arise during clinical practice. The role focuses on enabling staff through evidence-based education practical strategies and skill development to safely manage clinical aggression ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively while maintaining a safe respectful and supportive environment for patients colleagues and visitors.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Allied Health or equivalent
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Previous or current experience of training in clinical settings (experience in training in aggression management preferred)
  • Extensive clinical experience
  • Broad understanding of and interest in aggression management
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for OH&S
  • Ability to represent the OVA Advisor and OHS teams on relevant committees
  • Demonstrated capacity for autonomy initiative and to work appropriately with limited direction.
  • Computer literacy and skill including the proficient use of the Office 365 application as well as incident reporting software (Riskman).
  • Strong attention to detail accuracy and understanding importance of excellent record keeping standards and safety KPIs.
  • High level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
