Head JV Softball Coach

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma with a Bachelors degree preferred and prior softball playing and/or coaching experience. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) softball rules and regulations and the ability to instruct motivate and supervise high school student-athletes. Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to collaborate effectively with the varsity coaching staff and athletic administration. Required certifications include completion of all VHSL coaching education requirements current CPR/AED and First Aid certification and successful completion of all school division and state-mandated background checks and coaching requirements.

DESCRIPTION

The Junior Varsity (JV) Softball Coach is responsible for leading and supervising the schools JV softball program in alignment with VHSL rules school board policies and division procedures. This seasonal stipend position plays a key role in supporting the varsity softball program by developing fundamental skills sportsmanship academic responsibility and overall athletic readiness. The JV Coach works closely with the Varsity Head Softball Coach to ensure program continuity and to prepare student-athletes for future participation at the varsity level while fostering a safe inclusive and positive team environment.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

• Plan organize and conduct JV softball practices and competitions in compliance with VHSL rules and regulations
• Teach softball fundamentals advanced skills game strategies and conditioning appropriate for high school athletes
• Supervise student-athletes before during and after practices games transportation and all VHSL-sanctioned activities
• Ensure all participating student-athletes meet VHSL eligibility requirements including academic and conduct standards
• Enforce VHSL school board and athletic department policies consistently and equitably
• Promote and model VHSL standards of sportsmanship ethics and integrity
• Coordinate with the Varsity Head Softball Coach to ensure alignment in program philosophy expectations and player development
• Assist with player evaluations and communicate athlete progress to the varsity coaching staff
• Maintain accurate records related to VHSL compliance including rosters and participation documentation
• Assist with scheduling maintain accurate equipment inventory uniform management and field preparation
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes parents/guardians and athletic administrators as directed
• Ensure the safety health and well-being of all student-athletes at all times
• Attend required VHSL rules clinics coaches meetings and professional development sessions
• Support offseason conditioning and skill development as permitted by VHSL regulations
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Varsity Head Softball Coach or Athletic Director

SUPERVISION

The Junior Varsity Softball Coach works under the supervision of the Varsity Head Softball Coach and the Athletic Director.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties are primarily performed outdoors and require working in varying weather conditions. The position involves evening and weekend hours consistent with the VHSL softball season as well as travel to away games and tournaments. The role requires standing walking and physical activity associated with athletic instruction and supervision.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is provided as a stipend in accordance with the school divisions approved coaching salary schedule.
