2820 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL |
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK |
Performs difficult professional and administrative work in the administration and supervision of the elementary school and its programs; primacy is given to instructionally related activities; serves as the instructional leader and maintains an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy while establishing high expectations for all employees and students; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendents. Supervision is exercised over teaching and support staff. |
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires climbing kneeling reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS |

- Developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with state and federal guidelines and the philosophy policies and goals of the school board; ensuring student safety.
- Serves as the instructional leader in the building through a variety of activities;
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists with their development; develops master schedule and all teaching assignments;
- Confers and collaborates with the appropriate assistant superintendent concerning the instructional and pupil related program;
- Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication with employees students and community through numerous programs and activities;
- Maintains accurate records and reports of all financial dealings pertaining to the school;
- Supervises the preparation and maintenance of school budget reports and records;
- Attends divisionwide meetings as required;
- Establishes guidelines for conduct and handles disciplinary problems as necessary;
- Complies with all board policies and procedures;
- Monitors evaluates and counsels professional/classified employees as required;
- Maintains facilities in a safe orderly and attractive manner;
- Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings;
- Serves on divisionwide regional and state committees as necessary;
- Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness and school safety and crisis management program;
- Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES |
Thorough knowledge of the practices methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all facets of the elementary school principalship; thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board policies and procedures; strong skills in oral and written communication; outstanding leadership and personal characteristics; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates the School Board and the general public. |
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in administration and extensive teaching and administrative experience. |
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS |
Possession of postgraduate professional license with an endorsement as an elementary school principal. |
