SALARY
All new hires will be placed at the starting salary step of this classification ($7965 per month). Employees are eligible for a step increase on their anniversary date each year up to the maximum step 5 of this salary range ($8368 per month).

JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction performs skilled installation operation repair maintenance and servicing on a variety of computerized office audio/video network and other electronic equipment; and performs other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Designs develops connects installs programs troubleshoots modifies repairs and maintains networked fire alarm intrusion alarm clock and bell systems.
  • Connects configures installs programs troubleshoots modifies repairs and maintains end-user devices networks and peripheral equipment and software; Voice-over-IP (VoIP) intercom and public address systems; IP surveillance camera systems; and high-speed copiers and printers.
  • Troubleshoots repairs and adjusts a wide variety of projectors marquees scoreboards and other electronic devices used in the school district.
  • Orders new and replacement parts and maintains an inventory.
  • Provides training on the use of equipment and systems to district and site staff.
  • Keeps records of time and materials used and time expended on each job via ticket system.
  • Prioritizes and responds to emergency calls.
  • Contacts vendors for technical support.
  • Installs repairs and troubleshoots network cables as needed.
  • May use aerial lifts to maintain and install equipment if certified.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education and Experience: High school graduation or equivalent and three years of recent increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of computer telecommunication audio/video and/or other related peripherals and equipment is required. Experience with Local Area Network (LAN) is required. Completion of an approved technical school or related trade courses may be substituted for one year of required experience. Certifications and training in information technology is desirable.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Computers hardware software electronics and telecommunications systems.
  • Troubleshooting techniques required in the maintenance and repair of computer electronic and mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Local Area Network (LAN) concepts operations and troubleshooting techniques including TCP/IP protocol.
  • Programming procedures for VoIP intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems.
  • Electrical and fire codes.
  • Proper and effective equipment utilization.

Ability To:
  • Install and configure computer and electronic devices.
  • Demonstrate use of test equipment and monitoring software.
  • Learn and train others in new repair methods and procedures for newly-acquired audio/video office and other electronic equipment.
  • Quickly learn acquire skills and train users in new technologies as they emerge.
  • Troubleshoot diagnose and resolve problems in person and over the telephone.
  • Use computer and electronic test equipment to diagnose problems.
  • Use hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret schematics and specifications.
  • Disassemble and assemble small electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Read and write at a level required for satisfactory work performance.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff user groups vendors and district personnel.
  • Keep accurate work records prepare reports make recommendations and implement corrective actions.


LICENSE:Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate.


CERTIFICATE:Employees in some positions may need to possess and maintain a valid aerial lift certification. Appointees must obtain the required certificate within one year following their appointment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop school and office environments. Requires walking and standing for extended periods of time lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds without assistance and physical agility to kneel stoop crouch crawl through ceilings under flooring and other tight spaces. Must have manual dexterity to manipulate small and large parts; read schematics and small print. Work involves exposure to cleaners solvents and lubricants used in repair of computerized electronic and mechanical equipment. Climbs ladders while carrying equipment. May operate aerial lifts if certified.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Applications will be accepted from the general public and district employees who possess the above qualifications.The district reserves the right to invite applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the requirements needed for the position to continue in the examination process.The examination may consist of an evaluation of training and experience multiple choice performance and oral/technical exams. A qualifying score must be achieved on all portions of the examination in order to be placed on the open eligibility list. Outside and district candidates will be placed on one ranked list with eligible permanent district employees receiving five seniority points which will be added to their final scores.

VETERANS CREDIT: Veterans shall have an additional five (5) points added to their final percentage score on an open eligibility list as prescribed by Education Code Section 45296. HIRING PROCEDURES: Garden Grove is a merit system (civil service) school district. Employment and promotions are based upon merit fitness and qualifications. The person selected to fill any regular position will be from among the top three ranks on the eligibility list approved by the Personnel Commission. All Classified Management will serve a twelve (12) month probation.

EXAMINATION FOR TUBERCULOSIS:Proof of freedom from active tuberculosis must be furnished prior to employment and must be based upon an intradermal Mantoux tuberculin skin test completed within the last 60 days.

FINGERPRINTING: All new employees will be fingerprinted.
