Job Summary

About the role

The Parenting and Community Learning Practitioner provides culturally safe individualised parenting support using the Mangka Parenting resource which aims to strengthen family and community capacity through co-designed learning activities. The role facilitates education for families staff and community partners by drawing on a pool of resources from Mangka to customise an individualised program or compilation of learning materials that best address individual family and community needs. This also extends access to resources beyond Family Support Service to enhance community-wide capacity. Based in Darwin with the ability to travel to Perth and the Pilbara the role promotes intergenerational healing through trauma-informed culturally safe support that contributes to improved social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) and creates the secure foundation needed to raise strong happy and healthy kids


This is a Full-Time opportunity based in Darwin NT within our Family Support Service program. The position reports to the Coordinator Family Support Service.


Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role the incumbent will have:

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and Aboriginal ways of parenting; within a collective culture with deep connections to their kinship community and country.
  • An appropriate qualifaction in human services and/or equivalent experience and skills. A combination of equivalent study and experience including Aboriginal people with lived and professional experience will be considered.
  • An awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children young people and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal families and local organisations; ability to build respectful relationships.
  • Understanding of trauma impacts and a commitment to trauma informed culturally safe practice.
