Location: Houston TX - Hybrid Schedule

General Position Description

We are seeking an API Engineer to join our Technology team and play a key role in designing building and maintaining scalable APIs that support both internal systems and external integrations. This is an individual contributor role requiring deep hands-on experience with API engineering using Python and AWS-based cloud services.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment a passion for building reliable and high-performing services and the ability to collaborate closely with product managers and technology team in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design develop and maintain secure scalable and high-performing APIs (REST GraphQL and event-driven as appropriate) using Python
  • Build APIs that support both internal platform capabilities and external/customer-facing integrations
  • Leverage AWS cloud services to deploy monitor and scale API solutions
  • Collaborate closely with product managers engineers and cross-functionally to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient reliable deployments
  • Optimize API performance scalability and availability including monitoring and troubleshooting production issues
  • Apply best practices for API versioning documentation security and observability
  • Participate actively in technical design discussions and code reviews

Qualifications

  • 7 years of professional software engineering experience with significant focus on API development
  • Strong experience building APIs using Python
  • Hands-on experience working in AWS cloud environments
  • Solid understanding of RESTful design GraphQL and/or event-driven architectures
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines automated testing frameworks and modern development workflows
  • Proven ability to design systems for performance scalability and reliability
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally
  • No degree required; demonstrated experience and technical capability are paramount
