Richmond Behavioral Health is now looking for qualified Peer Recovery Specialist& Family Support PartnerInternsto gain their experience with our Regional Peer Academy!

The selected individuals will performintermediate skilled human support work involving the assessment of client needs and providing access to needed and appropriate services including treatment rehabilitation and service linkage case monitoring and client advocacy functions and related work as apparent or assigned. Utilizes lived experience with a child or young family member who has had mental health challenges. Work is performed under the supervision of the assigned Program Supervisor.

Provides non-clinical support to individuals and family members engaging in services utilizing the education received in the DBHDS approved 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training. Receives advanced recovery-oriented trainings along with a high level of supervision and support. Interns are placed at a CSB/BHA in Region 4 where they will share relevant lived experience use a strength-based person-centered approach to support individuals and family members identifying barriers to reaching goals and building recovery capital. This work will assist un-certified Peer Recovery Specialists in obtaining their 500 hours needed to sit for the state exam. Internship is a total of 560 hours.

Essential Functions

Connects individuals to community supports

Provides individual peer support

Assists individuals and families in navigating the mental health/substance use and physical health systems

Helps individuals and families self-advocate with clinical staff and for services in the manner of their choosing

Utilizes the System of Care values and approach to support families to access needed services and supports

Promotes collaboration with families providers and other natural supports

Provides outreach and support to caregiver and assist with identifying resources

Provides positive role modeling for caregivers as well as staff

Assists individuals in crisis to be safe and helping them resolve issues relative to the crisis.

Cultivates connections with a broad array of services that can assist in recovery

Offers personal insight and education on the process of recovery to teammates

Attends trainings and team meetings as required.

Encourages the individuals active participation in the treatment planning process by role modeling and teaching assertiveness and communication skills

Assists individuals to accurately identify and exercise their rights

Facilitates good communication between individual and clinical staff by providing a richer understanding of individuals perspective and helping to bridge divergent views between clinical staff and peers

Plans individualized therapeutic recreational activities to enhance social skill development.

Assists individuals in obtaining medical financial vocational legal residential and other necessaryentitlements/services/documentation
