Job Description
Position Introduction:
The Department of German Studies invites applications for a full-time position as a Lecturer in German Studies and Director of the Self-Instructional Language Program to begin in August 2026. Area and time period of specialization is open 1750-present for example while candidates with complementing strengths of current faculty are preferred.
Job Description:
Candidates must have a PhD in German Studies or related field in hand with demonstrated interest in and/or expertise in foreign language pedagogy and a strong commitment to working in a collaborative team environment including active participation in the department. An interest in decolonizing the German Studies curriculum and/or forging cross-disciplinary conversations with one or more of Vassars multidisciplinary programs is a plus. Responsibilities include teaching 3 courses per year in German Studies (or a multidisciplinary program) and directing the Self-Instructional Language Program which involves advising students hiring and mentoring native-speaker tutors and recruiting outside examiners from other universities. Though the position does not include any expectations for research lecturers are able to apply for semi-annual internal research funds as well as funding to attend conferences.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:
The annual base starting salary range for this position is $89000 to $93000 (USD). When extending an offer of employment Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidates education/training work experience internal peer equity as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the Colleges good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
