Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Location: New Jersey
Duration: 18 months- Spring 2026 start
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to provide comprehensive quality assurance and quality control oversight for pipeline construction activities. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can independently manage visual inspections conduct QA/QC rundowns and ensure all welding activities meet industry standards and project specifications.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections of pipeline welds joints and connections in accordance with API 1104 ASME B31.4/B31.8 and other applicable codes
- Perform daily QA/QC rundowns and documentation review to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Oversee and verify welding procedures welder qualifications and compliance with approved WPS/PQR documentation
- Monitor fit-up root pass hot pass fill and cap welding operations
- Review and approve radiographic and ultrasonic testing results
- Identify and document welding defects non-conformances and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate daily inspection reports weld maps and quality documentation
- Coordinate with construction management contractors and NDE personnel
- Conduct pre-welding meetings and provide technical guidance to field personnel
- Verify proper storage handling and use of welding consumables and materials
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards throughout construction activities
Required Qualifications
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification - required
- Minimum 5 years of pipeline welding inspection experience
- Proficient knowledge of API 1104 ASME B31.4 and ASME B31.8 codes
- Experience with visual weld inspection techniques and acceptance criteria
- Strong understanding of welding processes including SMAW GMAW GTAW and FCAW
- Ability to read and interpret welding procedures blueprints and construction specifications
- Proficient in inspection documentation and reporting methods
- Valid drivers license
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Capable of walking pipeline right-of-way and accessing construction sites
- Ability to climb bend and work in confined spaces as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
