Location: Conestoga College Doon Campus The Venue Restaurant & Bar
Time Requirement: Up to 20 hours/week (Some evenings and weekends may be required)

Reporting to:Food Services Supervisor

Start Date: April 21st 2026
Hourly Wage: $20.65

Line Cooksareresponsible forpreparing food items for a full-serve restaurantwhilemaintaininga healthy and safe kitchen workspace. In the course of this workLine Cookswillbe requiredtouse hot cooktops sharp tools and other cooking equipment. Occasionallyrestocking and storing inventory will also be necessary.

In carrying out the duties of this position a great deal of autonomy is exercised with final overview by theFood Services Supervisor. It is also important that theLine Cookswork extremely closely with theFood Services Supervisorto ensure that they are up to date on the basic overall operations ofTherestaurant.In all activities it is crucial that theLine Cooksrecognize that service to studentsand guestsis a top priority.

You will learn to:

  • Plan prepare and present quality food and beverage for a variety of hospitality environmentsin accordance withlegislation as it applies to the industry.
  • Apply the fundamentals of culinary theory in the preparation of foods for a variety of menus.
  • Maintain a high standard of sanitation and safety in a food service establishment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepareand cookfood itemsfor breakfast lunch dinner and catering eventsin accordance withthe provided specifications/recipes
  • Follow all specifications for ingredients and plate presentation
  • Operatecooktopsand other kitchen equipment
  • Assistin cleaning andmaintainingkitchen equipment
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment toensure the health & safety of guests and coworkers at all times; clean and sanitize all work areas and frequently touched surfaces before and after every use including (but not limited to):foodpreparation areas cooking equipment storage areas floors service areas
  • Work as a team with fellowFood Services staff


Other General Duties
Work in accordance with corporate by-laws policies and procedures particularly with the CSSI Mission Statement
Practice professionalism and impartiality when handling sensitive personal information
Maintain confidentiality for business practices
Strict adherence to Health & Safety laws policies and procedures
Adhere to CSSIs work attire standards
Work in an organized manner where detail accuracy and confidentiality are critical
Attend meetings and committees when required
Work with members of the College to build strong relationships between CSSI and Conestoga College
Mandatory attendance at monthly staff meetings and CSSI-related training days
Other duties as assigned


WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

  • This positionmayspendlongperiodsof time standing and walking.Lifting of supplies and materialsup to 50lbs may also befrom time to time.

Environmental Conditions

  • This positionperformswork primarily in an enclosed food preparation areaandisfacedwith frequent interruptionsand changing priorities.Work is alsowith andnear hazardous kitchen equipment including (but not limited to) a cooking range and sharp objects.Some work may beafterregularhours and on weekends.

Sensory Demands

  • This positionmayrequirelong periodsofwork in a warmand busyenvironment.

Mental Demands

  • This positionisexpected tomaintaina consistent sense of urgency while completing multiple competing priorities within shorttimeframes whichcancause significant stress. The incumbentalso dealswith a wide variety of people on various issues.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time program at Conestoga Collegeand be a fee-paying student
  • Must be available to work up to 20hours per week on days evenings and weekends as
  • Candidates will be asked todemonstratethe following:
    • Deep understanding of best practices in cooking and food preparation
    • Understanding of CSSIsfoodservices
    • Comprehension of instructions and information relating to CSSIsfoodservices
    • Customer service skills
    • Cultural competence
  • Food Handlers Certificate is a great asset but not


STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
All students in this position must:
Be in a full-time degree diploma or certificate program at Conestoga College
Maintain a full-time course load. Part-time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load

  • For Spring term positions (May to August) students must be returning to full-time studies in the Fall term to be eligible
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number


International students must also:
Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment
Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit
Adhere to all Canadian student visa requirements
