Job Summary

Your role at St John of God Health Care

As a Senior Manager Formation & Ethics (SMFE) you will play a critical leadership role in maintaining and strengthening a Mission aligned culture with in SJGHC through the development implementation and evaluation of a contemporary accessible and coordinated plan for formation of caregivers and leaders and lead the strategic focus for the organisation in its approach to ethics in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Liaising with the Chief Mission Integration Officer (CMIO) and guided by direction from the SJGHC Trustees you will develop a formation program in accord with the SJGHC Leadership Formation Framework SJGHC Leadership Profile and other relevant documents.

You will work closely with the Directors of Mission Integration (DMI) to ensure a high standard of formation is offered across SJGHC on a consistent basis and that frameworks for monitoring and evaluating formation are realised.

Additionally you will work in concert with the Mission Network and the SJGHC Senior Leadership Team to identify current and emerging areas of focus with regard to formation and ethics. It will be your responsibility to adopt a strategic focus on such issues ensuring that programs of formation (and in liaison with Learning & Development) afford caregivers adequate opportunity to grow in their Mission leadership and integration in their role and to respond to issues in a manner that is aligned to Catholic ethical principles.

The Position

Strategic

  • Provides vision and leadership for formation in Mission and ethics for all SJGHC caregivers and leaders.

  • Monitors the design delivery and evaluation of formation programs delivered across SJGHC in line with the SJGHC Formation for Mission policy and associated frameworks.
  • Facilitates the translation of the core elements of Catholic identity including ethics into the content of formation programs and experiences.
  • Develops and implements plans to enhance internal ethical capability and facilitates strategic relationships with external stakeholders across the Catholic network to ensure alignment and responsiveness to contemporary ethical matters.
  • Coordinates the SJGHC Ethics Committee and any other organisational ethics related working groups or committees on behalf of the CMIO.

Operational

  • Provides a system-wide process for formation for all caregivers and leaders that includes assisting SJGHC Executive teams in the development of individualised formation plans for newly appointed executives at the Group and Hospital/Service levels.

  • Undertakes regular reviews of existing formation and ethics resources to assure the documents reflect a contemporary ecclesial understanding of the health care ministry.
  • Works with Directors Mission Integration to develop clear plans to ensure access to formation for caregivers and leaders on an annual basis in line with Formation policy and ensures the efficient and effective utilisation of formation resources.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for the escalation of ethical matters from hospitals/ services and responds in collaboration with the CMIO and Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provides direct line management of the Ethics and Formation Officer.

Relational

  • Leads the creation of cohesive and collaborative relationships between Directors Mission Integration and other stakeholders to enable the delivery of consistent and robust formation programs for caregivers.
  • Collaborates with the Chief People Officers (Learning & Development) teams to develop formalised programs that will support leaders in their development as Mission leaders within SJGHC including identification and development of future Mission leaders.
  • Collaborates with the CMIO and Chief Medical Officer to respond to ethical matters and ensure a robust and effective ethics system.

You will have substantial experience in designing implementing and evaluating programs of adult formation for a Catholic ministry (health education or community services) and demonstrate deep expertise and understanding of Catholic teaching ethics tradition and faith practice in a contemporary context.

You will demonstrate ability to serve as a senior leader capable of managing competing demands and delivering results as well as ability to serve as an effective mentor to others. Your leadership style is strategic inclusive and exemplifies servant leadership.

To succeed you will possess Qualification/s in Theology Scripture Ethics Ministry or related studies.

It is highly regarded if you have significant experience in or demonstrated understanding of the health care sector and anadvanced understanding of Catholic teaching with regard to ethical issues in health care business ethics and Catholic Social Teaching.
